Description of 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider |
Alfa Romeo 1966 Duetto Boat Tail Spider 1600 This dimple-nose Duetto is an early 1966 model which was the very first year of manufacturing and was not available in the United States until the following year (1967). It is very rare to find a 1966 Duetto in general and extremely rare to find one in the United States. Original Alfa Romeo Duetto Spiders are becoming very collectible and have been increasing in price exponentially in the past few years. You can find fully restored 1967 year models being sold for $65000.00. I am offering a completely original 1966 example in its original Alfa Red paint (which in the 60's was slightly orange coral color) and with its original engine transmission exhaust and carburetors. This vehicle is completely rust free as it has spent most of its life in Nevada. When I took hold of it about 5 years ago some rust was present in the floor pans which was addressed with new sheet metal. It is now completely solid. At that time the engine was running but the carburetors needed to be rebuilt. I had them rebuilt and jetted by Alfa Center in San Francisco. Additionally I had the radiator re-cored the gas tank flushed and sealed and the air filter box cleaned and powder coated. As can be seen in the photos the interior has been disassembled but all the original parts down to the smallest trim pieces have been meticulously conserved and organized in labeled bags. I had the convertible frame cleaned and powder coated and have a wonderful new cloth top by Robbins Auto Top Company. The seats are original and although the stitching has separated they may be repaired by an upholsterer to maintain its original upholstery. The paint is weathered and has some scratches here and there. The body is absolutely straight. There are some dings and small bumps that are easily repaired. The underside of the front left belly pan I suspect has seen a close encounter with a parking lot car stop as it is raised and dented. Again this is can be quite easily repaired by a body shop. I have many new parts good used parts and all the original parts for this car. The new parts include a new water pump new carburetor mounts new brake booster new brake calipers new brake discs new brake hoses new polyurethane bushings new wheel bearings new control arm joints new spark plug cables new rubber seals new weather stripping gaskets and various other parts. Pretty much everything you need to finish the restoration. All five tires are brand new Vredestein Sprint Classics with 0 miles on them and are mounted on professionally painted wheels. I began the restoration process five years ago and in these past few years have not had the time to complete it. Since then I have kept the car well protected from the elements inside the garage. Not too much work is needed to complete the restoration. It hides no rust the body is very straight and the original paint is in decent condition. This is a gorgeous classic Alfa Romeo and a great investment for whomever will win this auction and complete the restoration process. Keep in mind that next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Duetto and of this one in particular and the value is sure to soar. I have a clean California title in my name and the Alfa Romeo official documentation stating the year of manufacturing and original color combination. Please see the many photos below for an accurate depiction of the condition of this Duetto. The car is currently registered as non-op and there are no back fees to pay. This Duetto is being sold as-is and no warranty is offered or implied. A deposit of $500.00 is required via PayPal withing 24 hours of auction close. The remaining balance is due within 7 days of auction close in cash or cashiers check. This automobile is not currently running and must be towed away by the buyer. It is up to the buyer to coordinate the pickup and I will be as helpful and available as possible to assist in this procedure. Bidders with zero or negative feedback please contact me before bidding.
