Description of 1965 AMC Rambler Ambassador |
Hello, I am selling my sweet Mabel, he is a 1965 AMC Rambler Ambassador 990. She is 95% original except the carpet and partial exterior paint. The carpet was replaced with NOS authentic AMC carpet. She was originally sold at an AMC dealership in Downey in 1965. The first owner later sold the car to a second owner in Los Angeles who had the car for many years and sold the car to a guy in Studio City in January 2009. I bought the car from him in September 2009. The car is a clean, ry, ust free California car. I am the forth owner of the car and Mabel served me well for 6 years. I only used to tow a vintage 1966 Driftwood travel trailer (SOLD) for shows and drive during weekends to wineries. I also tow a 1965 Starcraft Bahama boat (currently for sale on ebay.) Mabel gets a lot of attention because of the originality and turquoise color. The exterior is mostly original. I replaced the taillight lenses to a pair of NOS taillight lenses. The paint is original with some patinas and looks really cool. I have noticed in some body area that have been repainted. but most of the paint on the body is original. I replaced all door seals. The engine is original and had some work on it. The job that had been done on the engine are the exterior parts such as A/C, valves, eads, ater pump, nd radiator. The recent service on Mabel are front suspension, lignment, new Coker white wall tires, ew front disc brakes, ew rotors, oth rear brake drums nave been resurfaced, ew spark plugs, ebuilt Holley carburetor, ew valve covers, ew intake manifolds, ew oil pain seal with fresh oil, nd the engine purrrrs. I do have the invoices of the job done on the engine. The engine runs very strong. It has 106,127 original miles. The transmission is a 3 speed and shifts smoothly. Tony Wade, well-known mechanic in Burbank/Glendale did a full service on the transmission. He rebuilt the original transmission and replaced the shifter to make it stronger for towing purpose. I installed air shocks and still have new OEM stock shocks. I had the hitch installed with vintage electric brake for vintage travel trailer. Mabel is fully loaded as if you were to go on a cross country road trip. It has a roof rack, ow package, ed, nd A/C. On the side of the car has a Cross Country script badges. The interior is also all original except the carpet. It was replaced to NOS OEM carpet. It was done by the second owner. The interior is clean and does show a sign of aging. The headliner is original and does show some discolored spots from water leak in the past. The roof rack will need new gaskets and the front windshield will need to replace a new rubber seal. I drive the car in a dry weather and park her in the garage. I found a set of NOS matching color Rambler floor mats. A modern radio has been installed in the glove box compartment along with 6 CDs changer hidden in a storage box in the back of the car. The original radio remains on the car. The rear seat folds down to use as a bed or storage. The front seat has recliner and headrest. I towed a vintage travel trailer with the car and it towed very well. The engine is a V-8 327 & 270 HP, omes with a 4 barrel Holly carburetor. The car is currently registered and I have the title on hand. You will need to arrange for shipping for pick up the car. I will have the car parked and stored securely. I will keep the personalized plates. The rims that have been powder coated and come with 4 original hubcaps. I have many photos of the car. Please contact me if you want more photos of the car. She was well serviced and is currently well taken care of. I wanted to add a few things about the car. I met and had a chat with the previous owner of 12 years. She mentioned that she was a member of AMC Rambler club and she told me that the car is known to be a few registered in the USA (for the 990 station wagon model,) I wish I could find the fact that it is true. Secondly, he car was featured in several commercials by the previous owner and in a TV show with me as the current owner. The car is special with options such as A/C, 27 engine, power steering, nd factory option power disc brakes. It may be a special car with the histories. I have invested $8,150.00 on the car since I purchased her. She has ZERO bondo on the body meaning that she was never hit. I checked the whole body with a magnet and not one time the magnet fell off from the body. This car is not a show car and it's a "survivor" car. The car is special and is just like the way it rolled out of the factory. It's a great car to tow your vintage trailer. |
