Description of 1981 AMC Eagle Kammback |
1981 AMC Eagle Kammback 4x4 PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION ·258 6 cyl. Engine ·Automatic transmission ·127k miles ·New tires all around last year I bought this Eagle in 2012 from a man in Alabama who was a collector of AMCs.He’d owned the car in Colorado and New Mexico (where the Eagle is originally from) then took it with him to Wisconsin in the late 1990's or early 2000's as a collector vehicle. He had it there until he took it to Alabama just before he sold it to me.I flew to Georgia, rented a U-Haul with a trailer, and then drove the car back up to New England. The Eagle was then driven almost daily in the Summer months in Massachusetts until 2015 when I was transferred to Oregon.During that time I took it to quite a few shows and had a lot of fun with I, but in the craziness of selling our home in Massachusetts I decided it would be easier to sell the Eagle and have one less thing to deal with.I sold it here on eBay to a gentleman in New Jersey who picked it up a few days later.I told him that if he ever sold it to please let me know.Fast forward almost 2 years and I heard from the gentleman that he was thinking about selling the Eagle due to some life circumstances.Being settled in Oregon at that point, I bought it back from him and shipped it to Oregon.Shortly after that we were transferred to Wisconsin, where the car is now. When it was shipped to Oregon, unfortunately the shipper damaged a front fender a bit. There are two dents in the passenger side front fender, one right where the antenna connects and the other right at the angle a bit further towards the front of the car.I’ve captured this in the pictures. In addition, the bumper end caps were a bit beaten up (they were already a bit fragile).Over the next year I found and replaced three of the four with ones in excellent condition (the two front ones from Georgia and the passenger side rear one off a Kammback in Canada).I had each of these bumper end caps strengthened and re-painted to match the Eagle. The only remaining end cap to replace is the drivers side rear end cap.I didn't find a Kammback one, but I found an excellent condition SX/4 end cap that will do the job. It’s slightly shorter than the Kammback end cap, but since the last bit of the end cap slides under trim it'll look fine. Anytime something has needed fixing I’ve had it done, but this car has actually needed very little. It runs strong, starts every time, and has been pretty darn reliable.A few known imperfections include: ·Gas gauge doesn't work.It actually hasn't worked since I bought the car, I’ve just kept track of mileage. ·Horn on steering wheel doesn't work.Previous owner had a button installed under the dash that works the horn. ·Dents in front passenger side fender (as explained above). ·Cracked rear drivers side bumper end cap (as explained above). Replacement end cap will be included with car. ·Aftermarket CD player. For the purists, such as myself, I know it may be preferable to have an AMC unit.I may have an AMC AM/FM that I’ll try to find for the buyer if they'd like it. ·There’s some surface rust underneath, but largely looks good.No rot that I’ve found. This has been a driver Eagle, but well taken care of.It has small scratches, cracks in the finish, and small dents. That said, there probably are very few, if any, better looking Kammbacks out there, it’s a great car and is tons of fun to drive. No smoke, idles great, and has lots of pickup with the 258 engine combination. I’ve amassed quite a few spare parts over the years that are available with the car if the buyer would like them (some of which are in the pictures): ·Front grille in great shape. ·Extra sets (2) of fender flares. ·Center consoles (2). These are the type that go over the shifter and have a storage compartment inbetween the shifter and the bottom of the dash. One is black and is like new, just need to paint to match (using SEM Camel color, matches perfectly). ·Extra set of doors. ·Extra front fenders (2). One is from a Concord, the other an Eagle. ·Nice extra set of wheel covers. ·Extra set of matching front door cards (I believe at least one of them is NOS). ·And more that aren't immediately coming to mind…. Truth be told, I don't drive this car the way I did when we were in Massachusetts. It's probably only been driven 50 miles since I purchased it back from the man I previously sold it to, and a car like this shouldn’t just be sitting in a garage covered all the time.I still love the car, just life priorities have changed a bit. It’s time to sell it to someone who can enjoy it and take it to a higher level. I live in Milwaukee WI, but please note that the car is in storage 20 miles north of Milwaukee. The car should be picked up within 7 days of the end of the auction.I’m also happy to be available for a shipper, if needed. Please please do not bid unless you intend to buy. Clear Wisconsin title in my name. No warranties expressed or implied (remember this is a 37 year old car). Feel to ask any questions you may have and I will try to respond promptly.Thank you! |
