Description of 1979 AMC Pacer DL

I purchased this 1979 AMC Pacer in 2019 and have put about 2,000 miles on it since then driving to service appointments and giving it enough exercise to stay in tip-top shape.
The Pacer spent the first five months of its life with me at Overbeck Auto in Cincinnati getting virtually everything inspected and repaired or replaced to the tune of $13,152 (have detailed receipt). The next year, it went to Morris Automotive, also in Cincinnati, several times for new subframe mounts (specially fabricated), electrical/switch fixes, lower window seals, and other miscellaneous repairs totaling about $5,000 (have detailed receipts).
The transmission was rebuilt by Ridge Transmission in 2021, $1,300, have receipt. It was last in the shop September - December 2022 for a new steering rack (specially fabricated), motor mounts, a rattle in the passenger door, power lock maintenance, new antennae, etc. Basically anything still not perfect was fixed. Total about $5,800, the new steering rack being most of it. The only thing not repaired since I took possession is the engine. It's been tested and needs nothing and runs great, now on full synthetic oil.
As you can tell, absolutely everything works as it should, including cruise control, AC, heat/defrost, power windows/locks, all interior and dash lights, intermittent wipers, AMFM stereo, rear wiper/washer, brakes, engine, transmission, and suspension. The only thing not working is the analogue clock, but it does light up. Runs and drives without hesitation, stalling or odors. Cruises beautifully on the highway. No mechanical issues whatsoever. Original jack and spare still under cargo floor. Excellent glass all around.
Interior is corduroy and velour, individually reclining front seats with center armrest. No rips, stains, or burns in fabric. Driver seat only feels a little too soft, like the springs have weakened, and one of plastic retainers on the backside is broken as shown. No rips or holes in carpeting, but there is some fading on the front transmission tunnel. Cargo areas carpet is thinning in places but still very presentable. The headliner is tacked up as shown as the foam backing on the fabric has degraded with time.
While the Pacer is very clean, it's cosmetically original. The photos clearly show any further blemishes. Here's a rundown of the issues:

  • Bubbling at the very bottom of the rear quarter panels near the wheel openings
  • Corrosion around gas filler neck
  • Paint cracking on driver side front fender
  • Scrape near rear of passenger door
  • One rust spot on roof
  • Rust spot on inner right bottom of hatch opening
Thank you for stopping by to meet the Pacer — and good luck!
