Description of 1960 Austin Healey 3000 |
1960 Austin Healey 3000 BT7 – Good driver for future restoration. This is the perfect car for a “running restoration” or an eventual full restoration. Mechanically it is excellent. with a few exceptions. The engine is really excellent. Structurally the car is very sound. with no rust or accident damage that I am aware of. I am semi-retired and operate a "hobby dealership" for old sports cars. This is my personal car and I will be happy to give you straight answers to any questions. I was planning a significant renovation when I bought the car in 2008. It’s a duplicate of my first sports car bought in 1966. but I’ve been too distracted with my business and other car projects to make any progress. After 7 years and my rapidly advancing age it’s time to throw in the towel. The car needs a paint job. some talent applied to the unreliable overdrive. and a range of inexpensive small jobs done to make it a pleasure to drive and be seen in. It always draws a surprising amount of interest and admiration. even as it is now. It should be an inexpensive restoration (or renovation – all that’s needed) The following work has been done in the past 15 years during which the car has been driven every year but never very much. Over $7000 in new parts were installed during this time plus many hours labor. Sandblasted chassis & underside for surface rust. paintedPatched one panelPartial strip body & repaintedNew carpets & top (top now has small slit)Inspect. clean & paint wire wheels – all spokes tightRebuilt front suspension & steering. rear suspension and axleRebuilt front & rear brakes. master cylinder. clutch cylindersReplace all hydraulic linesCleaned and checked engine. all OK except small rear seal leakRemoved. cleaned radiator. replaced hoses & various partsNew ignition parts installedReplaced bumpers. blast and paint brackets. new rubber gasketsChrome & alloy polishedReplaced fuel pump. flex hose. etc. . repaint bracketRebuilt carbs. adjusted with exhaust analyzerRebuilt wiring harness. replaced fuse block. replaced defective componentsRebuilt generator and starter. cleaned and adjusted voltage regulatorRepaired and lubed heater controls. assured proper operationReplaced fuel tank with new unit. including pad. attachments and grommetsTransmission and mount cleaned and new bushings installed – synchros are goodOverdrive wiring connections cleaned. solenoid replaced and adjustedAll external lights wiring was corrected. nbsp; connections and adjusters made goodNew foam padding for carpetsSeat hardware was renovated and functions wellNew side view mirrorsNew choke cableMade windshield washers functionalInstalled new speedometer cable. New stainless exhaust systemRebuilt speedometer A recent engine test indicates it is in excellent shape. It starts right up. runs well. delivers robust power and doesn’t overheat. A significant negative with the car is the unreliable overdrive. It works fine when engaged but it is slow to engage and sometimes slips. More talent than I possess will be required to adjust this properly. Also. the paint is only fair and flaking on the hood and one other spot. and the passenger seat fabric has a rip. The hood has a slight twist. door cards are incorrect and the front calipers currently stick from lack of use. You can see pictured a section of the inner rocker panel which needs patching – the only evidence of rust damage on the car. I believe my reserve is set at a fair price. well below what I paid when I bought the car at a high point in the market. Given the potential for appreciation I believe improving the car is a good investment. I’m happy to show the car. It is stored for the Winter in my workshop and can be easily inspected. I can assist in loading it for shipment (you must arrange the shipper) or can store it at no charge until Spring. I’ll be happy to discuss the car if you send me a message with your phone number. I will not respond to obvious time wasters. PLEASE NOTE: BIDDERS WITH FEW OR UNDESIRABLE FEEDBACKS MUST CONTACT ME THROUGH THE MESSAGES SECTION AND GIVE ME THEIR EXCUSE AND PHONE NUMBER OR THEIR BIDS WILL BE CANCELED. THIS CAR WILL BE ADVERTISED IN OTHER MEDIA AND I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THIS AUCTION AT ANY TIME. On Dec-15-14 at 10:05:50 PST. seller added the following information: I have discovered the calipers are fine. it's the master cylinder that is sticking. |
