Description of 1959 Austin Healey Other |
Body # BN6L 3414 I have owned this car since the early 1973 and have had it stored indoors for almost 40 years. The engine had been professionally rebuilt just prior to my purchase of the car from a friend of my fathers. The engine miles since rebuild are estimated to be less than 12. 00 miles. I did some minor body work on fender rust and door dings. and had the car painted in the same shade of Healy blue as the original. The car was my sole transportation for 2 years and then it was stored in a detached garage with gravel floor while I went off to college for several years. The car was stored with frame resting on blocks. the engine fogged and the entire car covered with a full breathable car cover. Life got complicated and the car sat until 1990 when it was moved to its present location in a climate controlled garage attached to my house. The car has not been started since it was first stored. but the engine turns freely by hand using the crankshaft pulley nut. Everything worked when I parked it. including the electric overdrive. all gauges. switches and relays. This Healey is an excellent candidate for either a full frame-off restoration or simply a minor refurbishment for casual fun driving. The car is complete. except for a few items that that need repair or replacement. The leather seats are original and in good condition with no cracking or splits. The carpet is faded in areas but in reasonable condition otherwise. There are some usual Healey rust areas that should be reworked prior to repainting on the bottoms of the steel fenders. rocker panels and lower parts of the doors. The trunk lid should be reworked and faired before repainting. The right front turn signal trim ring is missing ($3. 85 from Moss). The exhaust down-pipes need to be replaced ($79. 95 each from Moss). The radiator hoses need replacement. The brake and clutch hydraulics (masters. slave and wheel cylinders) need to be rebuilt or replaced. The side curtains need rubber weather stripping replaced and the driver side curtain has a weld crack in the corner of the frame. The trunk needs a liner kit. The seat belts should be replaced. There is some damage to the interior mat under the spare tire cover and some areas of vinyl on the interior panels need to be re-glued in place. The gas tank may require cleaning and the carburetors may need cleaning. The car rolls and steers fine for transportation purposes. Included in the sale are four wheel dollies and a full car cover. |
