Description of 1965 Austin Healey 3000 |
British Racing Green (BRG) is the perfect color for an Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Phase II, as these pictures show! You can’t buy gas or park it without one or more people giving you the high sign or reminiscing about one that they owned or rode one in back in the day… And this 52-year-old gem is a completely original specimen, not a re-built re-creation made out of after-market parts. Comes with the British Motor Heritage Certificate showing the car was built February 22-23, 1965, and shipped to New York on March 15, 1965. Engine # is 29K-RU-H/5735, and the body # is 75584.It has been garaged and driven regularly for the 10 years that I’ve owned it, and has never seen rain. The original owner was from southern California, and I bought it from the second owner in Arizona, so it’s a “desert” car without a spot of rust anywhere. Mechanically it has been maintained perfectly, as 10 years of service record receipts document. Was repainted nicely just before I bought it in 2007, and a foreign car expert here in Santa Fe went through a complete mechanical update in 2009: new brake pads & shoes, new drive shaft U-joints, resealed timing cover & gearbox, new engine mounts, suspension bushings, & radiator hoses, etc. Will include the full service receipts so you can contact him for details. Has had a complete service every year, including Hemmings’ extra-Zinc synthetic oil (which prevents cam lobe wear) and run on Ethanol-free gasoline (which saves rubber & plastic parts). Also included is the original owner’s manual, shop manual, a spare parts box, and a nice collection of magazine articles & publications on the history of this model. Comes many very rare original items including the original wooden dash, black leather tonneau cover & boot, British Motor Corporation AM radio (the local music channels suck, but the radio work great!), electronic Laycock overdrive, telescopic steering wheel, etc. The few non-stock items are: • Electronic ignition system (no more points to adjust) • Chrome spoke wheels (original gray-painted ones are included) • Halogen headlights & parking lights (safety first) • Stainless steel mufflers & exhaust (will never rot) • Extra interior insulation (gets hot here in the summer) • Electric fan added to the drivers-side vent (ditto) • Multiple-blade radiator fan (ditto) Other than that, the car is totally original – a rare find in this age of 0-mileage restorations made from after-market parts. And it starts and runs great – come to Santa Fe to test drive it and I’ll blow your mind on these mountain twisties!
