Description of 1960 Austin Healey 3000 |
This is a no reserve auction starting at $15,000. This is a matching numbers vehicle per the BMIHT certificate. It comes with clear Massachusetts title, is currently registered, inspected and on the road. It was originally Ivory White and sold in Paris France. Somewhere along the line it was painted its current BRG over white, IMO the most classic combination for a Healey. It comes with three tops: Tonneau cover, the convertible drop top, and a hard top. More on those later. It sports a seldom seen louvered hood. I acquired this vehicle 16 years ago at an antique auction, in pieces, the engine on a skid. It was a project car for me and was a lot of fun rebuilding and putting together. I didn't have the funds to support a full restoration. The engine was rebuilt which included reconditioning the head with hardened valve seats, new valves and rings. The cylinders and pistons where still within spec so they where retained and new rings installed. Crankshaft was ground and new bearings installed, I do not remember to what size. Rear main oil seal conversion installed. Added Pertronix ignition and spin on oil filter. I have the original oil filter housing to go with car. Carburetors rebuilt by Apple Hydraulics.Original oil pressure gauge also rebuilt. There is 3400 miles on engine since rebuild. There is evidence of body filler in the LR and trunk and in the passenger side door which also has a small crinkle in the bottom. Visible in photos. The heater was never hooked up but I do have the heater element for it, fresh air duct work is also missing. The overdrive throttle switch has not been connected. The overdrive has been working fine but didn't engage when I drove it the other day, not sure why. The transmission is crunchy in 1st gear but other gears are fine. Yes, I wish I had rebuilt the transmission at the time but money was tight. New clutch and throw out bearing installed. Original wire rims are wearing Kumho 771 165/R15 Radials. Engine runs strong as an ox but needs someone who can tune it up better. The carburetors need adjusting and I'm not sold on the Pertronix ignition. I think the distributor shaft has some wobble to it that doesn't help things. It will diesel when turning off engine when hot. I believe that is an indication of timing issues. The fuel pump is a generic 12 volt from NAPA. I have original fuel pump included with car. Other parts can be seen in photos including a pair of fog lights that I never mounted and rear bumper over riders also included. The tonneau cover I bought new from Moss and is in great shape. The convertible top came with car and is in decent shape, might need some stitching on the seams, but there are no holes, the rear window, well, kind of blurry. I have the sliding windows for it but have never mounted them. The hard top: it's solid but not in pretty shape but is solid with no holes. Someone had put duct tape on it for some reason and kind of made a mess of it. I think the right fiberglass person would have no trouble restoring it. I have the plexiglass rear window but do not have any of the rubber seals for the window or for where it mates with the body. The only history I know of is the two window stickers still in place: Colgate University, Senior 77-78, and ???Hampton Town Resident Parking permit (maybe North Hampton). As I head into my retirement years my interests have changed and motor vehicles didn't make the cut. I want this car to find a happy home and get some loving. Enjoy it as is or restore to your liking. I will try to answer any questions as best as I can. For additional photos click on this link:https://www.flickr.com/gp/160093251@N07/3qW356 |
