Description of 1962 Austin Healey 3000 |
This is a very special Austin Healey. Designed and constructed by an aircraft engineer in the late Sixties and maintained and modifiedto the highest standards byits two long term owners. Starting with a near new low mileage Healey a Corvette engine wasinitially installed with a 4 speed close ratio transmission creating an outstanding high performance automobile. In subsequent years the 4 speed was replaced with a more modern 5 speed transmission and the original Corvette engine was fully rebuilt to 350bhp specs. Throughout the history of this car many more items wereupdated as well, some of which are a complete fully fusedwiring harness, BJ8 disc brakes, competition valved shock absorbers, larger sway bars, Dennis Welch chassis bushings and hardened axle shafts, 3:54 Lempert rear axle ratio, big bore side exhaust and headers, stainless 6 inch wide wire wheels, a very rare " Stirling Moss" Mota Lita wood steering wheel, full leather interior, factory hard top with rally vent, Lucas driving lights, Aston Martin alloy fuel filler, and a modern air conditioning and heating system. No body modifications except the addition of Rally Vents. Show quality paint finish. All weather equipment, soft top, tonneau and curtains are in excellent condition. This car needs nothing and ready for your enjoyment now. Not a back yard builthot rod but a fully developed, professionally constructed example. It is a wonderful road and rally car, comfortable, tractable andwith tremendous performance when called upon.Smoothly pulls from 1000 RPMin any gear all the way to 7000 RPM without hesitation. With the factory hardtop and sidescreens mounted it is a true grand touring car, top removed it is a most enjoyable sports car. Austin Healey history describes how Carrol Shelby actually contacted Donald Healey about creating this type of car but Healey could not due to his obligations to Austin. We all know what happened when Shelby joined forces with Ford and AC. In the fifties and sixties quite a few Healey V8 conversions competed in various races and did quite well, often defeating far more sophisticated machinery. There is a very interesting article in the January 2019 Austin Healey Club of America's monthly magazine describing one such car, the Cor-D-Ley. Available for inspection by appointment. Email any questions. Check my feedback, you would be delighted with this Healey. I am not a dealer just an individual who collects and enjoys outstanding motorcars. Thank you for your interest. |
