Description of 1957 Austin Healey 3000 100-6 43K original miles Factory Hard Top |
Up for sale is my beloved 1957 Austin Healey 100-6 BN4 . This is a very desirable 4 speed with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear with only 43,000 documented original miles. This car is referred to by enthusiasts as a “Longbridge” car with its rare “Gallery Head” original engine. Built in Longbridge England for only 1 year before production was moved to Abingdon where later cars were built along MGA’s. This car is an unrestored original matching numbers car that is in mechanically in excellent condition. I purchased this car several years ago from the nephew of the original owner – Uncle Fritz. Fritz drove the car for only 13 years and 42K miles then parked it in his garaged where it sat from 1970-2010, The car was refreshed in 2010 (documented by book and video) and sold to me in 2018. This car comes with its original factory hardtop (very rare), tool roll, jack, side curtains and workshop and operating manuals and original sales brochures all from 1957 – 65 years ago. The nephew created a picture book of the car with original photos and documentation along with a you tube video (Austin Healey Project). According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate (Birth Certificate), this BN4 was built on August 29th, 1957, (chassis no. BN4L0 / 47335). All ID plates on the car match the BMIHT certificate nos. which match the title. After replacing and upgrading the parts listed below, the car now drives excellent and can be driven anywhere. It is an absolute pleasure to drive!!! The new stainless-steel exhaust note, shifting and gearing, braking are just perfect. Mechanicals: The engine is original to the car and is referred to as a “Gallery Head” engine. Very few photos exist of this engine in books. The intake is actually part of the head. Rare in that very few still exist today, later replace with a separate intake that increased by 17 HP. This engine idles at 400 rpm!!! and is silky smooth. It revs quickly with a terrific exhaust note. The engine valves were adjusted with new plugs, wires cap and rotor. Cooling system runs cool. Brakes are great and the car stops straight and quick. Steering and shocks are in good shape. Steering was aligned and has new Dunlop 72 spoke wire wheels with new Vredestein tires. I have owned several 100 4’s and 100 6’s and this is by far the best one that I have personally owned. It is a very strong runner and drives really well and just steers, brakes and feels solid and tight. The 4 speed gearbox is a pleasure to use with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears, essentially a 6 speed. Turn the key, hear the fuel pump hmmmm, pull the choke out and the starter cranks the engine to life. Engine idles quietly and smoothly at 400 rpms which substantiates that the engine is well tuned and balanced. Oil pressure is strong at 60 psi and it revs quickly to 5500 rpms. It runs very strong with no smoke and sounds terrific. Best sounding vroom vroom sound of any car that I have owned and is not loud and annoying. The engine runs cool and doesn’t overheat. All lights, signals, wipers and horn work fine. Brakes are excellent and stops quickly and in a straight line. They have all been completely rebuilt with new pads, hoses, and lines. The steering box was rebuilt as well and so its tight and handles very well. Shocks are firm and it has a factory front anti-roll bar.. Gearbox is quiet and pulls well in all 4 gears without any grinds, noises, or hesitation. Downshifting is fine and the clutch is light and a pleasure to shift up and down through all the gears. Overdrive works on 3rd and 4th gears perfectly! You can literally drive it 60-80 mph all day long. It has a comfortable road feel at cruising speed and an incredible sounding crisp exhaust note. I’m 6 feet 2 inches and 225 lbs and I fit very comfortable with my legs straight out. The following are recent UPGRADES and new parts/services: New upgraded water pump New Aluminum gas tank, sending unit, fuel pump, fuel lines and filters New painted 72 (heavy Duty) spoke Dunlop Wheels, Vredestain tires (I have the original 5 48 spokes wheels) New tune up parts (distributor and ignition wires, cap, rotor, NGK spark plugs, oil change and oil filter) Stainless steel exhaust
Body: Body is straight and accident free! The car was repainted back in the 1960’s in Red with Black coves. Original color is Colorado Red. Paint looks good but not perfect but is presentable with some nicks and scratches and areas where the original color is coming through. That’s what makes this car special is it’s an honest runner. The frame is solid, straight and accident free and RUST FREE!!!, Trunk area surrounding gas tank is rust free and solid Front windshield glass and all chrome including front grill are original and in good condition. Windshield is the original laminated factory glass and is in perfect condition. Interior: The interior in the car is amazing!!! The dash and seats still have its original leather, a testament to its low mileage. Door panels are new along with a new factory Red carpet set and new rubber mats. Dash looks great with all working original gauges, buttons, and knobs. Aluminum cockpit rails are in good condition with a nice tight fit. Doors close nice and drivers side lock. Hard top is a factory original (original paint) and is super rare and desirable and it has it original side curtains and Tourneau cover. Closing: This is a 65-year-old car so it is sold “AS IS” with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold “WHERE IS” in Huntington, New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer. Hagerty Insurance Co has an agreed upon value of $69,500. You are welcome to see and drive the car to insure 100% satisfaction. The early 100-6’s Longbridge cars are very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts and are rapidly appreciating in the lower six-figures for well restored cars or excellent original low mileage cars (yeah if you can find them). I have a current valid transferrable New York registration. If you are a serious buyer and have any questions or need any detailed photos and videos, please contact me. The car is also listed in Hemmings.com with long video. Thanks for your interest. Dave. |
