Description of 1972 Austin Mini 1000 Super Deluxe

Austin Mini 1000 Super Deluxe 1972

A very low mileage example.....first owner was a 'little old lady' in London, a friend of mine imported this car 14 years ago and only drive it around his neighborhood in the Summer, now with 32,800 original miles. And always garaged.
Engine is a 998cc unit with a single H2 SU carb, I fitted electronic ignition (so it will never need a tradition tune up), changed oil and filter, new hoses and fan belt, no smoke, perfect running, have had it up to 75 mph and seems to be happy cruising at 65-70 mph. With the Cooper 1275"S" 3.44 final drive, turns relatively low revs (3,200rpm at 60 mph) and with the extra padding I installed under the carpets, is surprisingly quiet.
Transmission is an all synchromesh unit and works perfectly. Clutch doesn't slip or chatter. Replaced one engine mount but otherwise the drive train seems perfect. Engine bay is close to spotless. All of the brakes and hydraulics are new....new clutch and brake master cylinders, new wheel cylinders, flex lines, and shoes.
Excellent electrical system, has an alternator, all lights, switches, heater, interior and gauge lights, etc. work. Exhaust is quiet, front end is tight, steering is excellent, wiring is in good order, and all of the gauges work.
Body is excellent, repainted just oncet, no rust, no plastic filler, solid floors and sills, excellent subframes, excellent trunk floor and battery box. And show quality two stage acrylic paint, hand wet sanded to a mirror finish. Paintwork, alone, cost over $4,000.
Interior....near perfect original carpets, back seat, panels, headliner, etc. With a nice comfy pair of Corbeau seats. I added a steering column recliner (so the column angle does not feel like driving a bus), tachometer on the column, and a beautiful wood steering wheel with a clock in the middle. Also added plastic pockets on each door panel, dyed to match.
Car has new Wipac fog lights wired through a relay and the hi-low beam switch, inertia reel belts, new battery, locking steering column, fresh air heater works well, new chrome mirrors with special plinths so they work well in a Mini, spare keys, jack, lug wrench, owner's manual, original washer works (nozzles cleaned and adjusted), doors fit like new, has a battery cut off switch, I did everything to my little car to make it as good as any Mini in the world. And, I suspect, better than most.
Although rated at 40hp, around town, it pulls very well in traffic and gets up to 50 mph rather quickly. Clearly not designed for long distance, high speed driving, but the 3.44 differential makes a huge difference and gives the effect of having a 5th gear in a normal Mini.
Ride is very good, handling is breathtaking, and the overall effect is of a classy little, fun to drive, great 'round town and winding road car. Which is easy to service, parts are generally very inexpensive, and there are plenty of parts suppliers in the U.S.A.
Although finished recently, the car has become superfluous to my needs and the first genuine buyer coming my way will own a fabulous car into which I put a small fortune, a lot of thought, and detail work. As I am advertising this car, using other resources, I retain the right to end this auction at any time and for any reason. Car starts instantly, runs perfectly, and doesn't miss a beat. As for 'looks,' in my opinion, ready for the kind of low key show appropriate for this kind of car.
