The Mark I Sprite made from 1958-1961 became affectionately known as the Frogeye in the UK and the Bugeye in the US. The initial design intended for the headlights to be retractable but cost cutting deleted that idea. The engines used in the early cars was a 948 cc producing 43 HP. The car we are pleased to offer here is the 1275 cc engine, which is a huge difference considering the car only weighs in at just over 1300... lbs. According to the owner, the engine was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago. The manifold and carburetor were upgraded as well. These wonderful little cars have a huge race following along with the Midgets having their very own series called the Spridget races. The 3 owner, 1959 Bugeye offered here was sold new in Idaho. In 2011 it was given a new paint job and new seats. Cosmetically the car shows very well. The car comes with a copy of the heritage certificate, soft top and, spare tire and windows. This car is a spirited driver and will put a smile on any ones face who appreciates open air British motoring. This fantastic little Bugeye is ready to go.
