Description of 1937 Austin SEVEN

This auction is for a very rare and unusual car. It is a 1937 Austin Seven four passenger touring 2 door convertible. This was an English import for the American market. It is left hand drive and from what I understand only a handful was shipped. Being in the business over 45 years I have never seen one. This is a real cool looking car. Has a lot of the vintage 30's Ford looks to it. Just to give a little history this car was brought to Maine from New York in 1986 . We have pictures of it hunkered down on some type of boat trailer . The car was stored in a cement block building with a 55 chev convertible that we also purchased and sold it some time ago. A friend of mine bought this car and put it in the corner of his shop hopeing to fully restore it but seeings it was so original he decided to just freshen it up and leave it with the patina that it has. The body and fenders are all original steel. I believe the maroon portion of the car is still old original paint. He did remove all 4 fenders . and blasted them and professionally refinished them. He had a new top. seats. door. kick and quarter panel upholstery redone. Top irons were sand blasted and repainted. The wide top bows front and rear are wood and were refinished nicely. New beveled inside review mirror. All 5 wire wheels were sand blasted . painted and 4 new 5. 00x16 Excelsior tires and tubes were installed. Brakes are new front and rear and also brake cables. Wheel bearings were checked cleaned and repacked. New muffler and tail pipe. New windshield glass. The original steering wheel was sent out and professionally restored. Dash panel professionally refinished. 3 new grill emblems. As for the running gear . the motor and transmission was removed . The inside of the motor was clean as a smelt so head was cleaned up with new head gasket and oil pan gaskets replaced. The transmission is a 4 speed it was completely taken apart cleaned and re installed. From what I was told very few came with the 4 spd trans. Most were 3 speed. Gas tank was sent out cleaned and epoxy coated. fuel pump was rebuilt and new gas lines were installed. Starter was rebuilt. Car runs great shifts fantastic and stops well. In driving down the road the steering is fine but feels extra sensitive. Car also has the optional fold out rear luggage rack that sits in front of the spare tire. Two things that the car should have is a new wire harness as this one is usable but aged and speedometer is out and needs to be restored. We have other pics if you need them of the spare tire and wheel. the original horn all the side curtain assemblies minus the plastics and 2 side covers for the engine compartment. There is a box of misc items that were removed from the car and replaced and also a bunch of misc screws nuts and bolts. While he was ordering parts from England he purchased a new hub puller which is special to the austins. All this will be included in the sale. Will be sold on dealer bill of sale and Maine registration which will get you a title should you need one. Will consider a buy it now price for the right offer before reserve is met. If reserve is met the auction will run to the end. We require a $500 non refundable deposit after auctions end balance due 3 days from end of auction.
