Description of 1965 Austin Gipsy

NO RESERVE AUCTION! Amazing opportunity. The Austin Gipsy was built from 1958 to 1968 after which the merger which created the British Leyland Group eliminated this very capable competitor to the Land Rover. The vehicles were widely sold throughout the world, including the North American Dollar area through US and Canadian British Motor Corporation dealers who weere handling the MG, the Mini, the Austin sports cars and saloon/estate lines, and the Gipsy truck as well as some larger BMC trucks and transports. In 1965 Austin won the contract to supply a variety of ambulances, fire fighting equipment, and police vehicle throughout the U.K. as well as in many European countries. The Auxiliary Fire Service had served the U.K. through the war years and the government was eager to be prepared for any wartime emergencies with capable vehicles. The Gipsies could tow a trailer equipped with Coventry Climax pumping equipment and could get into tight spots. Happily the need never arose, but the vehicles were impeccably maintained and most came out of hiding for the famous Auction with under 2,000 miles of use. (see the Austin Gipsy site online at Austin Gipsy.net click the AFS tab) In 1997 just under a hundred of these trucks, this one included, were sold into private hands. Over the next 20 years this vehicle only had another 35000 miles added which is documented by the MOT certificates before I imported it from the UK. Everything works perfectly though some servicing was required including all new hydraulics for brake and clutch, tires, window rubber in the hardtop and the windshield which got new glass as well, (door slider rubber just arrived and will be replaced) and a repaint to a high standard. We did the u-joints and balanced the driveshaft. This vehicle is solid, performs beautifully, and is tons of fun. There are simply very few opportunities to find these low mileage low use Gipsies and only a handful ever made it to North America where they are cherished by collectors who use and enjoy them as they should. I can answer any questions having owned three Gipsies and I will be embarking on another. This is quite frankly, one of my favorite collector cars and I have owned Aston Martin to Zagato Flaminias and everything in between. The fun, the simplicity, and the thumbs up per mile are just what joy is all about. Parts are easy and plentiful, and the service is simple when needed, which is seldom. The start price is extremely low and well below what these vehicles have been selling for (including two of mine) but it is time to move on to the next one and let someone enjoy this wonderful vehicle. There is NO RESERVE!! Email with any and all questions. The factory workshop manual and original owners handbooks are included, as well as the original title showing the ownership by the "Home Office" London, S.W.1. If anyone would like undercarriage photos or pictures of the old titles or records new or old, please contact me. Many thanks. Cold Start and Driving Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhuvCwqMzlw
