Here we have a super cute and very rare Austin A40 pickup truck. Austin made several models of the A40 between 1947 and 1967 including the Devon which is a 4-door saloon, the Dorset which is a 2-door saloon (many converted to "gasser" drag race cars), the Countryman (think station wagon), the panel van and this little pickup to name a few. Not many made it to the United States so most are overseas and right hand drive. There is said to be less than 300 here in the U.S. so if you're looking for something unique, here it is. It's powered by a 1.2L 40 horsepower 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual column-shift transmission. It has coil spring independent front suspension and a solid axle rear end. Top speed is said to be around 70 mph.
This Austin pickup has had the same owner since 1979 and comes with the original "Pink Slip". He drove it to car shows and British car gatherings until around 1988 and it's been stored inside on a non-op since then. We fired up the engine and it sounds good but the fuel system, brakes and hydraulic clutch will need to be serviced to make it road worthy again. The tires will also need to be replaced. The fire truck signs on the door are magnetic and just for fun. The horn on the roof is powered by the air tank in the bed and works great although it does leak air. We are located in Fresno, California where classic cars survive very well, especially when they are stored indoors. We couldn't find rust anywhere on this truck and the body and paint look fantastic. If you'd like to see this Austin Pickup in person or send someone to inspect, please let us know. This a great opportunity to own a super cool classic vehicle that no one else has!
