Description of 1988 Bentley Other |
Concours Winner Maintained Without Regard to ExpenseSome days just work out. Since neither of my PMCs are runningit was looking like I’d just be driving my everyday car and parking in thespectator lot to spend the day judging at a Southern California Concours d’Elegance. Then out of the blue I was offered a rather spectacularBentley for the weekend; a 1988 Bentley Continental MPW DHC(SCBZDOO2). It’s the second time I’ve encountered this car and it’sbeen a pleasure each time. The car is fitted with crystal cocktail sets inthe door pockets picnic tables and a William Rau steering wheel thatcomplements the interior perfectly. In its lifetime it has made its wayfrom Bethesda (MD) through Boca Raton St. Louis and Charleston(SC) on its way to our concours at Santa Anita while traveling only39000 miles. The Continental of this period is unique in history; an importantpart of the decision to bring the Bentley brand back to prominence. In the S-Series days it was a lightened car intended to improve highspeed touring on the “Continent.” With the Shadow’s change to unibodyconstruction true coachbuilt cars from private firms became a thingof the past. This meant that Rolls-Royce could no longer produce aContinental chassis and ship it to a coachbuilder to fit a unique body toit. So the Continental disappeared for nearly 20 years until 1984. Thename was revived for those who felt that the name Corniche was simplytoo common; only about 10 percent of the convertibles produced in this erawere Continentals.Along with its Mulliner Park Ward coachwork it isdistinguished from other Bentleys by its body colour grille. This beautiful PMC won 1st Place Concours – CouchbuiltMPW Corniche & Camargue Series at the RROC So Cal Concoursd’Elegance on March 28th at Santa Anita. The Bentley also was selected for the cover of the prestigious Rolls Royce Owner's Club magazine of Southern California (see photo of actual magazine). The name Bentley has become synonymous with elegance perfection and uncompromising standards. Bentley has been producing quality performance cars since 1919 with six first place finishes at the 24 Hours of LeMans the most recent in 2003. A ride comparable to no other it doesn’t get any better than this. Impeccable attention to detail and unparalleled excellence is what defines the Bentley marquee. Mulliner Park Ward the coach builder of this masterpiece is renown world-wide for sculpting some of the most magnificent automobiles every built. This Classic will be an attractive addition to any collection of high quality motorcars. Whether someone islooking for pure driving luxury or an investment that will turn heads this drophead will fit the bill.SCBZDO2A9JCX22023has been maintained without regard to expense and comes with receipts demonstrating the passion this owner showed in caring for this car.Take a careful look at the imagesto validate the care that this classic has received. From the luxurious supple leather seats to the exquisitely finished burl wood dash to the private compartment in each door concealing your personal taste; you will note the care given to every last detail. This classic is the very best. CONTACT: For additional information call BlueChip Motorcars at (949) 496-3000. About Factory Correct Cars offered by BlueChip Motorcars BlueChip Motorcars periodically offers classic cars that may be listed as Factory Correct or Numbers Matching. Because there are many opinions about the term(s) used to describe these types of listings allow us to explain how BlueChip Motorcars comes to that assessment. As you may know depending on the source the term “matching numbers or factory correct” may mean many things to many people. Purists might define it as a car with every possible window crank dash knob or even every nut and bolt is original to the car from the time it left the production line. Although some classic cars do exist in that rare condition most do not. The majority of classic cars on the market were at some point in their ownership restored or repaired with NOS parts (new old stock) or licensed reproduction parts. Whenever the information is available to us about the use of these parts BlueChip Motorcars will gladly pass it along to the potential buyer. BlueChip Motorcars uses the term Factory Correct or Numbers Matching only to distinguish a vehicle where the engine casting code corresponds with the VIN and Cowl Tag code. If these codes tell the same story about the car in question BlueChip Motorcars then considers it to be a Factory Correct or Numbers Matching vehicle. However unless otherwise stated the transmission rear end and transmission may or may not be original to the car. BlueChip Motorcars welcomes all potential buyers to verify all the information with a qualified expert. We would be happy to email you all the numbers that are obtainable on any vehicle where the term Factory Correct or Matching Numbers is used. |
