Description of 1979 BMW 3-Series |
1979 BMW 320i E21-generaton 3 Series with 130,000 original miles. This is a nice survivor with 4-speed manual transmission. Very complete and original car that was sold new in San Diego. Comes with original owners manual and service booklet. Also includes the original and complete tool kit and factory jack. Exterior: The paint is Sierra Beige. It is thin in areas that have been buffed over the years. The passenger door has multiple dents. There is a small dent on the right front fender and a small dent on the back of the car below the taillight. The body also has minor dings and scratches but is remarkably original. Bumpers are in good shape as are the lenses and headlights. The right rear taillight lens is cracked as well as the right rear side marker. Overall the body is rust free, though there are a couple of very small spots that exhibit minor rust bubbles. Interior: The interior is complete and original. The dash exhibits cracks. Door panels are in good shape, as is the center console. The carpeting is original and does not have any tears. Headliner and sun visors are intact and in decent shape with some wear and shrinking. The manual sunroof works great. The driver's seat bottom is torn but covered with a seat cover and the passenger seat is in good shape with the exception of the deteriorated seat bottom padding. Rear seats are in good shape as well, though the padding has deteriorated as well. The heater works great. The A/C blower works as well, though the it may need a recharge. All gauges work correctly as well as the gauge lights. Door windows wind up and down and the hinged rear quarter windows open correctly. Engine: Original M10, fuel injected 2.0-liter engine with 130,000 miles. Runs great with good power, no smoke from the exhaust. All original exhaust and emissions equipment. Transmission and Shifter: The 4-speed gearbox and clutch are in good shape and operate as they should, shifting easily through all of the gears. The shifter mechanism needs new bushings, so shifting into reverse in particular is vague, but it's never a problem getting it into gear. Wheels, tires and brakes: The original alloy wheels are in good shape, though they have been repainted over the years. Tires have good tread but are older and cracking. The brakes work fine and benefit from a new master cylinder. Electrics: Pretty much everything on the car works: High beams and low beams Taillights Brake lights Reverse lights Right and left and front and rear turn signals Heater blower motor AC blower Stereo tape deck functions, as do all speakers, which sound surprisingly good. Overall, this 320i drives great on the road and I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a longer driver. It is fun to drive around town and is comfortable on the freeway with almost no vibrations. This is a very cool classic BMW that is cheaper than the older 2002 but rising in value. Email with any further questions. I will assist with shipping if the buyer is out of state. |
