Description of 1981 BMW 7-Series Base Sedan 4-Door |
Updated information since last posting.1981 BMW 733i with the rare 5-speed manual transmission. I have been having my old MG restored and I needed something to drive until it was ready. Well, now it is about to be finished so, since I live in downtown Seattle with only one parking spot, I need to sell this car. I have to say that I am ambivalent about selling it. Years ago I owned a 733i and this one is so much better. I bought this car from a man who had owned it since 2003. The car ran well when I got it, but the HVAC system didn't work and, to be honest, I don't think he did a lot to the car except drive it. He did all of the maintenance himself so I got no maintenance records. The HVAC system and onboard computer rarely work on these cars, but since I live in Seattle I needed a car that had a heater system that would work so I took it to my mechanic to have him go over the car completely. Here is what I have done to the car since I bought it: Full inspection of vehicleOil and filter changeGear box oil changed with synthetic gear oilSpark plugs and spark plug wires replacedNew lower radiator hoseReplaced all accessory drive beltsRemoved and replaced rear brake pads and rotors and brake pad sensor (cleaned and lubricated brake calipers, slide mechanism and pad contact points and adjusted parking brake)New radiator capNew oil capNew air injection hoseNew HVAC resistor and relayNew temperature switchNew front hood emblem and wheel emblemsAll of the above came to more than $1500 and I can provide the receiptsWithin the last two weeks I have also had the following done:New heater hose, new elbow hose to cylinder head, thermostat return hose and upper radiator hose and pressure tested. The car was running a little rough so I had a compression test done on the car. Compression was 145 psi on each cylinder. At that time it discovered that the distributor vacuum advance box was inoperable so I ordered a new one ($150 from Germany) and had that installed and now the car runs smoothly. Car comes with original owner's manual, and two Chilton repair manuals. Now that the HVAC system has been repaired the a/c, heater and onboard computer work (very rare for an old 733i). I even ordered from eBay the 52 page original dealer brochure. I tried to post more pics but I am only allowed 12, but the car even comes with the original tool kit which is located in the trunk (all pieces are there). The man I bought it from said that the odometer cable broke at 159,000 miles and he guessed that maybe in the past two years he had put at most 5,000 miles on it. The original BMW AM/FM cassette player works (for those who still have cassettes). Has original floor mats in good condition, original key and valet key. The electric antenna was broken off before I bought the car so I replaced it with a rubber antenna but the motor still works should you want to replace it with an original BMW antenna. There is only one spot of rust on the entire car which is located on the passenger's side front fender. The car has original paint and has not been repainted. It is only sufrace rust and very, very small. There are a few cracks in the dash (aren't there always) and two very small rock chips in the windshield. When I bought the car the only issues with the interior were a seam had come loose on the driver's side bolster and on the passenger's side rear headrest. Unfortunately when the mechanics were working on the HVAC system one of them put a knee into the driver's seat and that caused a tear. Unfortunate but an honest mistake. There are a few rock chip on the front (I would assume from highway driving, but very small). The last owner told me that his son tapped the front into the garbage and that caused to indentations to the chrome around the the grill. I was able to find a left one, but not the right one (of course this will come with the car). My reserve price is close to the by it now price, so no I will not be selling it for $1000. Literally every time I drive this car someone compliments it. I'm sure there is something I have forgotten to mention and, should you have any questions, you are more than welcome to contact me at 206-854-5303. If you have 0 or negative feedback you will need to contact me first before you bid. All transportation costs are to be incurred by buyer and a $500 deposit must be made within 24 hours of sale with the remaining due within 7 days. I'm an honest seller with 100% positive feedback. I hope I have answered all questions, but don't hesitate to contact me should you need to know anything else. I have placed a reasonable reserve considering how much I have in the car. I can hold the car (after full payment) for a bit of time so that you can secure transportation. I have a Washington title in my name. Only U.S. bidders or shipping. Thanks! |
