Description of 1958 BMW Isetta 300 Rare |
1958 BMW Isetta 300 USA Model VIN # 515010 29920 miles Restored #2+ Condition (93 pictures are below the text of this ad) It you are having a difficult time viewing the pictures below this text, you can go directly to my ImageShack account and view all pictures in large format, so that you can blow them up and look at every inch of the car up close. https://imageshack.com/a/vMll/1 Walk-Around Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0NLvIc5Zqg&t=5s Start-Up Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QeAQJnKtfI This is a 1958 BMW 300 Isetta that is believed to have spent its entire life in Sunny Southern California. The current owner has had the car for almost two years and bought it from a gentleman that had it for about twelve years. The majority of the restoration was done in 2002 on a rust-free, accident-free, bondo-free body of a USA model. Based on the last three owners the mileage and odometer are believed to be original to the car. I am helping the owner/collector sell this vehicle. He and his wife have an extensive collection of cars and is extremely picky about what they acquire. My background has revolved around collector automobiles for over the past 40 years, from collecting and restoring to judging at many concour events in and around Southern California. This car is a solid #2+ car and was featured in the 2018 Carmel-By-The-Sea “Concours on the Avenue”. While it received no awards it was one of the clear public favorites. The Body & Paint & Chrome are that of a solid #1 condition vehicle. The body is rust, ding and scratch free. The body is as straight and original as I have ever seen on one of these little cars. The paint is flat and mirror-like. The car was repainting around 10 years ago and is near perfectly with no flaws, dings or scratches. The Interior was completed reupholstered in 2013 by Sew-Cal Upholstery in Upland, CA in 2013 and shows of high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The top was replaced at that time. The folding mechanism works perfectly. Mechanical - We do not know the extent of any motor restoration as this is a very low mileage car, so it may still be completely original. The paint and finish on the motor cases are clean, look very original and unrestored. Just before the car was purchased by the current owner it had been worked on by Greg Hahs, the “Isetta Dude” in Upland, CA. Greg renewed the brakes, installed a new starter & ignition and tuned it up. The car starts right up, idles and runs with no smoke whatsoever. It does not appear to use oil and runs superbly for a 13 horse motor. There are no leaks. Tires are all new. All lights & turn signals work well. The engine is matching numbered. When viewing the pictures there is a picture of the VIN tag, the next picture is a close-up of the engine case number; they are one in the same. Undercarriage is very clean and presentable but is likely original and never repainted or restored. If you wanted to take the car to a concour level this would be an area you would want to clean thoroughly and repaint. To me, the undercarriage shows-off the low mileage Southern California car history. The original keys come with the car, including the special BMW logo key that opens the engine compartment. This would be a great car to actually get out and enjoy driving around town. It is also show car ready and with some very minor detail type of work to the undercarriage it could easily go to the next level. Show/Driver #2+, the perfect little car to own and enjoy. These cars are a blast to drive and own. A conversation piece wherever it goes. If you are in Southern CA and want to view the car or if you have more questions, please call Frank at 949-310-6262. The owners phone number is available as well upon request. More about the Isetta: The Isetta - meaning “little Iso” was designed and first manufactured in Italy by Renzo Rivolta’s Iso SPA and subsequently manufacturing licenses were sold to both BMW in Germany and Velam in France. BMW credits the “bubble car” for saving its bacon in the 1950’s prior to its launch of iconic 1602/2002, their intimate savior series. The 300 is only 7.5 feet long and about 4.5 feet wide and the single door is simply the whole of the front of the car! The Italian version used a 236cc 2-stroke twin, which BMW switched out for its own 250cc motorcycle 4-stroke single. 13 horsepower might have been about right enabling 50+ mph and 50+ mpg.
