Up for sale is this beautiful 1988 BMW 750il with a 5.0 liter V12 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. It’s Luxorbeige metallic paint is in wonderful condition with very few blemishes. The saddle tan leather interior is also in near immaculate condition. This quiet, torquey cruiser was BMW’s flagship vehicle back in 1988 and was tastefully modified by the original owner shortly after new and dealer maintained until 1995 when it was purchased from its second owner, a local car collector, who added it to his collection where it was stored for 20 years, occasionally being brought out for a cleaning and to run all the fluids through. While the cosmetics had been upkept, some mechanicals had suffered, most of which have since been tended to since my purchase in March of this year, which I will list below. I have since added approximately 1,000 miles to work out any kinks and not see it fit for sale.Modifications performed by original owner:-Racing Dynamics performance exhaust. Perfect low rumble at idle with a subtle tone at speed. Perfect for a luxury cruiser like this.-The ultimate hifi stereo upgrade for its era. If you know anything about car audio, you’ll know exactly what this setup is all about. Search for high end stereo equipment of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s and this combo was the hot ticket. Nakamichi’s TD-700 tape deck, component speakers (5.25” front 6.5” rear) and two 8” subwoofers built into the rear deck with custom cover upholstered in matching rear deck fabric; an oem fit and finish. Sound processing handled by the a/d/s 642Csi and then on to a pair of a/d/s amplifiers (PQ10 and PQ20). Nestled in the ashtray is the controller for the Clarion CD changer mounted in the trunk, though it is missing the magazine. (Original BMW car phone still wired in and turns on, though unusable with todays service)The second owner had installed performance chips from Dinan for the pair of DME’s this V12 as well as the matching chip for the transmission. Coupled with the exhaust, the boost in power makes you forget you’re riding around in a +4,000lb tank. The following repairs have been completed since my ownership beginning in March of this year, using all new genuine replacement parts, unless otherwise noted.Radiator, hoses, water pump, intake manifold gaskets, drive belts, coolant pipe o-rings, valve cover gaskets, one new crank sensor, coolant reservoir, spark plugs, both fuel pressure regulators, and BOTH fuel pumps and filters.Moving to the transmission, it’s recieved a full service; trans pan gasket, filter and fluid change. The mounts and center support bearing have also been replaced. Rounding out the drivetrain was a differential fluid job.Other mechanical repairs include rear suspension “dog bones”, all four calipers replaced with rebuilt units including the corresponding rubber lines. The hydraulic rear suspension appeared to be original and were slightly leaking. A pair of two-year old units were installed from another vehicle, including the nitrogen accumulators and lines. The blower motor also had been making some noise so again, replaced with a slightly used unit from another vehicle. While I would’ve loved to leave them on, the Pirelli P600 tires were a bit too rotted to be safe to drive on so they were replaced with new Kumho’s, wrapped on the stock Polished style 3 wheels.Notable imperfections or issues: slight chipping of paint at left rear door, presumably from leaving the seatbelt latch extended when closing drivers door, drivers door lock that intermittently sticks and the a/c has not been retrofitted to R134a (currently not working). The volume knob on the radio has slight crackling when adjusting volume, though has been diminishing with use. Its LCD screen has also bled a little bit though stations and time can still be read. The instrument cluster pixels are nearly all functional, save for the small section which shows gear selection but again, not enough not to be able to read. All power functions work well; heated seats, power front and rear, windows, steering, transmission mode, auto heated mirrors and rear sunshade. Gorgeous Lloyd floor mats were added by the previous owner and match the interior wonderfully. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions or requests.*can forward clean carfax report upon request.
