Rare Slick Top 1982 BMW 520I 5 Speed. 125,000 miles or just under 200,000 KMS on the odometer. European market E28 in original un-restored condition. Body has a good patina to it with minor rust areas at the driver's fender, jack point, battery tray and rear valance where it meets the passenger rear quarter panel. The paint is peeling in places and looks to have been repainted at some time in the cars history. The previous owner had the car for 12 years and was unaware of any body work performed. The hood is very solid and rust free with the sound insulation mostly intact, however the hood has a few minor dents and a bend where it was contacting the windshield wiper arm. The arm has been removed and is in the trunk. Trunk is very solid and clean. The undercarriage is very straight and clear of any major rust issues; over all a very solid car for body restoration or enjoy the patina as is. Glass is all original with BMW logos, there is a crack in the windshield. Rear bumper has been pushed in a bit on the passenger side and needs to be straightened; the bumper did not contact the body from what I can see. The blue cloth interior is a good condition and complete with European headrests at the rear. Passenger comfort seat has a minor tear in the vertical bolster. The dashboard has its usual cracks and the door handle plastic surrounds are missing. Power windows up front and window cranks in the rear of the car with one window off its track and in the rolled up position. Interior is dry and clean and very restorable. Engine fires right up an is an inline 6 M20b20 in good running condition that could use a tune up and some vacuum leaks taken care of. There is a sticker indicating that the timing belt has been done at some time but hard to make out and in German. The motor does smoke on start-up and goes away; most likely old valve seals. Exhaust is not in the best of shape and has leaks. Brakes are getting down but are surprising very solid at the petal and responsive. Transmission is smooth through the gears with the clutch grabbing high. Suspension is original and dry but showing its age. The original steel wheels and hubcaps come with the car also. To be clear this is a 37 year old car that has not been abused, at the same time has not been obsessed over and is largely original and needs attention to be roadworthy again; the car is a project. I would consider this an excellent base for a restoration or build as the car has not been tampered with. Send any and all questions, happy to answer the smallest one. Standing still this euro shark nose in its current condition looks way better than our North American diving board cars fully restored.
