I was told that this 1969 BMW 1600 waspreviouslypossessedby two long time owners and is completely unaltered and original down to the am radio! These cars are becoming immensely popular and this stunning example deserves to be back on the road! This classic was manufactured on January 30th, 1970 and was originally painted in the very popular Sahara (paint code 006) color. It has since had one respray many years ago in fjord blue. The engine has run within the past few weeks (I jumped the starter and coil to get it to turn over and run) but I have since changed several of the ignition components and have not gotten it running again since. While running, the car did shift smoothly into each of the gears on the original 4 spd manual transmission and moved under its own power. The pedals move freely and work as they should. The brakes are completely inoperative and the car will have to be shipped as non-driveable. The interior and trim are all completely original. After 50 years the upholsteryneeds refreshing as does the carpet. The dash has some small cracking at the ends but is in remarkably good condition aside from that. Several of the instrument needles moved and warning lights illuminated when the the car was hooked up to power and the key turned on. The windows and hardware appear to be original and are all functional. The windshield has some chipping/cracking. The pillars, sills, roof, hood, frontal sheet metal, doors, and grill of this car are all very solid. The shock towersare rust-free and solid. There is a small rust spot (maybe an inch and a half in diameter?) on the inner fender wellof the engine compartment abeam of the brake booster. The front fenders are in solid shape as are the quarterpanels, with the exception of a small rusted area behind the driver's side rear wheel (see photos) that I believe to be patch-repairable, as well as some bubbling in the paint in a small area on passenger side rear wheel well lip. The underside of the car will require rust repairs. The rockers on both side need replacing and there are some rusted areas in the wheel wells and along some of the edges of the floor pans. The trunk spare tire area has some rust. The trunk lid and inside lip have rust that I believe to be repairable and do not think will require replacement. The clutch, brake pedal and ebrake work as they should. The brightwork looks very clean and straight on this 1600, and the chrome does polish up well but some has some pitting/bubbling. This 1600 seems to be very nearly 100% complete but is missing the driver's side rocker trim strip. It has aftermarket aluminum alloy wheels at the moment but the four (believed to be original) steel wheels as well as the original hubcaps will be included with the sale of the car. It comes with its stock jack. Please feel free to google this (and look at the picture of the letter from the DeKalb County, GA Tax Assessors office) regarding GA titling and proof of ownership. GA does not issue titles for cars older than 1986. In lieu of that and to prove legal ownership, Georgia issues a current registration that is legal proof of ownership when presented in conjunction with a Bill of Sale that will enable anyone living in a title-state to obtain a new paper title. The only twist to this I have run across was the State of NC which required registration and a bill of sale from TWO previous owners before they would issue a new paper title. In any event I can provide the legal registration and Bill of Sale from the previous owner as well. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to terminate the auction at any time prior to expiration.
