Description of 1986 BMW 3-Series ES

1986 BMW 325es for sale. This car has had extensive work done to it. both in terms of restoration and mechanical repair as well as performance upgrades. As it sits right now. it is a strong running. drivable E30 that looks great. It will need more work to make it the best it can be. but it is a great starting point to own a classic BMW that will continue to appreciate in the future. Exterior: Black paint. mostly original and in good condition. The hood. trunk. and front air dam are newly painted with Glasurit paint because of clearcoat issues. Glass is in good condition with a new windshield. New outer side window gaskets Lights and reflectors are in good condition. The air dam has rare brand new. factory correct Hella foglamps. Front and rear BMW roundels are new. Wheels are chromed 14 inch BMW “bottlecaps” in very good condition. Matching Kumho tires are in good condition. Interior: Factory sport interior is in good condition with the exception of some tears on the rear seat and headliner and some cracking on the front seat bolsters. Door panels are excellent. Dash is from an 89 325i and is excellent with no cracking or warping. Factory sport steering wheel in good condition. New suede shift boot and BMW Motorsport weighted shift knob. AC system is complete with later model compressor that can be converted to r134. All parts were from pressurized systems and should ready for flush and filling. It is not currently pressurized. Maintenance and repairs: New timing belt. tensioner. and water pump Replaced fan clutch New valve cover gasket All hoses and belts inspected and replaced as necessary New plugs and air filter New fuel filter and fuel lines New main and secondary fuel pumps Fresh Bilstein shocks and struts Replaced seized brake caliper New steering rack boots Repaired front sway bar mount New oil and filter Flushed and replaced coolant Clutch inspected New throwout bearing Upgrades: BMW 325i motor and transmission from a well-maintained 130k mile donor car. 325i wiring harness 325i dash and gauge cluster 325i exhaust with factory dual tip muffler New short shift kit New front upper strut brace Larger e30 convertible front sway bar New H&R lowering spring Tucked front bumper Both bumpers blacked out Issues: Dings on doors and fenders and the paint on the roof is starting to check. The sunroof doesn’t work. though the motor makes sound. Driver’s side lock doesn’t work Tach doesn’t work Service engine light is on No stereo. though factory BMW radio will be included Front air dam sits a little too low below bumper Has light lifter tick Front suspension lightly clunks on bumps. Rear suspension has some clunking noise (maybe u-joints) Will run a little hot after about half an hour of driving. though recent cooling system bleeding has helped. Slow leak from power steering reservoir hose Driving impressions: The car starts well. whether hot or cold. and settles into a smooth. even idle. The engine revs well and feels strong. Brakes are good. though they could benefit from a thorough four wheel bleed to firm the pedal. Steering is smooth and tight. Suspension feels comfortable and fairly well damped. but a little on the soft side. Transmission shifts well into all gears and the short shift kit and weighted shifter are very sporty. Clutch feels good but engages a little high. Overall. a refined feeling and fun to drive car.
