Description of 1986 BMW 3-Series 325 |
I purchased this from a friend in 1999. He had been in two minor front fender accidents that just creased the fenders - no other damage. He was to big for the car and sold it to me. I replaced the two fenders then began sinking moneyinto the car. I found a perfect set of seats on eBay that were beige to replace the blue cloth seat front and back which were trashed. I found door panels in perfect condition and replaced them as well. I had the timing belt replaced and had a full tune up performed. I was in New York at the time. I shipped the car to the west coast when I moved back. Since then I've put over $5000.00 into the car. I have written records of everything done. Hitting the high points - new tires fuel tank front/rear windows window seals sunroof seals recent engine work including another new timing belt all new hoses new alternator new belts new water pump new carpet kit new dash cover new distributer cap wires and plugs. My plan has long been to totally restore this car. It is such a wonderful model and I believe it will be a classic and collector's item some day. With minor body work and a good paint job this car would be beautiful. The original wheels have been glass beaded then powder coated platinum grey. The tires have less than 300 miles on them the brakes have been redone the front suspension components inspected and new ball joints and arms. What is wrong with it at the moment - gas gauge not working - there is a new sender and tank. I think it might be a fuse and will check when I get home. Water temp gauge not working but there is voltage at gauge and I installed a newtemperature sender so I think it is either a fuse or connector corrosion. I plan to check both and hope to restore operation of both this and gas gauge. All main system components work great. Engine runs and idles smoothly. Transmission shifts very smoothly also. New accelerator pedal hardware and cable - no slack there. Steering wheel dead solid on the highway - no free play very tight. All electrical works (lights turn signals etc).As far as mileage I am estimating 130000. I also had to replace the speedometer years ago as the one in the car had not worked for as long as the previous owner could remember. This one works perfectly including the odometer which I rebuilt with nylon gears that won't wear out like the hard plastic ones that are standard.I have a six page PDF listing all the new parts purchased for the car which I'm more than happy to send anyone who requests it. It lists the date purchased the part the vendor and the cost of the part.In summary this is the perfect car for someone who loves the breed wants something in quite good shape that they can fine tune or strip down for complete restoration.I would never sell it but I have five cars four motorcycles and a space problem. In addition I have so many projects I don't know when I will ever have the chance to finish this car the way I want it to be.That said it nobody is able to meet the reserve I have noproblems keeping it and eventually getting it finished. I really do love this car. |
