Description of 1957 Buick Other |
***Read this whole thing! What we have here is a 1957 Buick Super, eries 53. This old girl is is about 18-1/2 feet long and almost as wide. The interior makes your Escalade feel cramped. Plenty of room to convert to a mobile tattoo parlor, r heck, ou can live it in for a few years when your wife kicks you out of the house for buying it. This car was in storage for over 20 years before I got it 2 years or so ago. I revitalized the critical systems and got her back on the road. Yes, he is a project car. But a running/driving project car.She has a 364 cu-in Nailhead V8 with a factory spec 4-barrel carb. The dynaflow transmission works great (not much to go wrong since it is a single speed). It has an enclosed driveline from the transmission back to the rear axle, hich is all coated in an anti-rust protective layer of oil and grime. The engine currently running in the car has small 1" crack in the block just above the starter. This is from water in the cooling jacket freezing repeatedly while it was in storage for 20+ years in Washington state. This results in some coolant dripping out of the block after driving it. That is about it. Still runs great and starts up right away. Good torque. INCLUDED WITH THE PURCHASE is a spare 364 engine ready to be rebuilt. Good block with no cracks or anything. Here is the low down on the work I have performed: Suspension/Brakes-New tires mounted on original wheels that were sand blasted and painted with enamel.-New front springs (lowered the front a small amount)-New shocks all the way around-New panhard rod bushings-New front disc brake conversion from Scarebird Classics-Newly rebuilt rear drums brakes-All new brake lines and hard lines-New Corvette-style master cylinder and booster-New proportioning valve (for disc/drum setup)-I used new fasteners wherever possible. Engine/Drivetrain-Carburetor rebuilt-HEI electronic distributor-New plugs and wires -New water pump -New aluminum radiator (original radiator included with purchase)-All new belts and hoses -Electric cooling fan triggered from switch in radiator.-Optima battery -New battery cables-All new fluids (did a lot of research to make sure correct fluids were used)-Spin-on oil filter conversion (used to have canister type...what a mess)-Refreshed fuel tank inside and out-All new fuel lines-New dual exhaust system exiting through the rear bumper as Mr. David Dunbar Buick intended.-Spare engine included Interior/Exterior-Original interior, ome things work, ome dont.-All I did was remove the rotted carpet, lean and vacuum the floors and coat with rust sealant-Rebuilt tail lights-Seat belts added, ear belts are kind of chintzy, would put better ones in there if you have rear seat passengers.-working lights all around, ncluding turn signals-Original paint with patina-Bumpers and chrome work looks good from 20 feet... well maybe 40 feet....away. Some areas of the car were repaired a long time ago by a body shop, o there are some signs of bondo here and there. Just dents, othing major.Mostly on the right rear back door and the right rear tail fin. Rust is not an issue on this car. You find the worst of it at the driver side rear wheel arch, t the front of the arch. Also at the bottom of the rear doors. The trunk, ll the floors, tc are all solid as a rock. This car DOES overheat when I drive it for more than 5 minutes or so. Will be a good thing for you to fix, ives you something to do to get to know her on a personal level.Driving it you will notice the brakes work well but require some leg, usually use two legs. The power steering works perfectly as does the transmission. She starts right up and idles great too (manual choke). The only gauges that work are the engine temp, il pressure, nd ammeter. Rat rod this thing, onvert to a Sunday street cruiser, r do a full-on restoration, our choice, nd it would be perfect to do any of those. Included with the car is a box of the parts I took off of it along with the stock radiator/fan shroud and of course, he spare engine. I will also throw in the complete service manual, nd parts catalogs where you can purchase everything you will need to for her.
