Description of 1968 Buick Skylark |
Buick Skylark convertible with very low original miles! Documented 25,000 mile car. The car is a rare color combination with the white and red interior and black top. The interior and top are original to the car, he body has had one repaint back in the 70s. There are just a couple rock chips but otherwise it is in fantastic condition. There is absolutely no rust on the car, t is as clean underneath as the top. This Buick runs and drives like a new car. The car came with the following factory options, u>power steering, power disc brakes, u>power windows, u>power seat and tilt steering column. I have the build sheet for the car that identifies all options and equipment. When we found it this summer it was in like new condition, ven the paper is still white like the day it was put in the car. Engine is the Buick 350 4 barrel, had a noted Buick Carb builder in Texas rebuild theQ jet and the engine runs out flawlessly. Smooth idle, o hesitation and power through out the rpm range. The car came with a dealer installed under dash AC system, didn't care for it, o I removed it and the compressor system from the engine. Because I had to disassemble the front part of the engine area to remove the compressor and brackets, decided to pull the radiator and had it flushed, nd repainted, he original tags are still in place. I repainted the engine, nstalled new alternator brackets and alternator, nd a new fuel pump. Fan shroud was cleaned and detailed. I took liberties with the addition of the radiator overflow bottle. These could be dealer installed later, ccording to the service bulletins, o it went in. All new radiator hoses were installed. The engine runs as smooth as new and has never overheated or given me any reason for concerns. Transmission was serviced this spring, nd shifts correctly, nd the rear is a 2.72 open gear. I installed all new dual exhaust, ith factory OEM style mufflers. It is quiet, ut allows the engine to breath and run nicely. I recently made a trip up the Mississippi into Wisconsin and Illinois and the car averaged 18 mpg on the trip, ot too bad for 1960s technology. The disc brakes from the factory were getting sticky from sitting, o I opted to replace them with a new modern set. I also added a rear sway bar to let the car handle better. By installing the modern style disc brake calipers, was able to add a new set of the Buick Rally wheels in 15x7 and new BFG TAs. I opted for the red bird center caps, nstead of the traditional tri shield style. With the new disc brakes, chose to replace the original factory master and booster with a new unit, had the replacement built to directly copy the factory original, o it all looks period correct for the 68. You will notice there is even the factory tag hanging from the vacuum line that is coded for disc brakes. That has been on the car since new, nd even though it's a paper tag, till looks near new. The interior on the car is in absolutely beautiful condition, o tears, r issues, t all looks near new and the top is in like condition. The windows go up and down well, he top mechanism works correctly, nd because the door and window seals are all still soft and flexible, t seals out wind noises very well. As statedthe top is in the same condition as the interior, nd fits and looks great. The 8 track is a dummy and is not included with the car. Chrome and trim on the car is in fantastic condition and really looks as though it may be 7 years old instead of 47 years old. I would hope any perspective buyer for this car to come look it over in person and drive it, do not feel you would be disappointed with the overall condition of this wonderful Buick.
