1956 Buick Special 4dr Estate Wagon
A real part of Americana, 50s station wagon ! this is one car I really hate to sell. But if we do we do. Chances of finding another one for around this price.. slim to none. BRIEF DESCRIPTION: 13,770 ever built over 50 yrs ago. here is an un-restored survivor. How many are left on the streets ? less then 1000 maybe ? hard to say. The car sat here in NM for many yrs, till showing about 39k on the clock Is it original, ossibly. To get it back running again, temp have the fuel line going to a small tank of gas under the hood. Im not sure about the condition of the fuel tank, ut looking at trying to maybe hook it up this week and hopefully run it off the rear tank. As for now it runs well for its age and not really being restored. Fires up almost always on the first try even when its cold. The chokes not hooked up at the moment, ut doesnt seem to matter. Brakes work too, lthough Im not sure Id trust putting it on the road until new lines and wheel cylinders where installed. It gets attention whenever I take it up the road to the local Qt Its a FUN beautiful car just as is in my eyes and has alot of potential for whatever your plans would be. Originally the car was blue on blue. At one time it was painted the yellow you see now. Id personally sand off all the yellow back down to the original blue and go for the patina look. if that didnt work, hen go something wild like a 2 or 3 tone Resto Mod !! DONT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUNDS IN HAND, pparently some people who use ebay arent smart enough to understand the rules. So if you have under 10 feedbacks, ll be emailing you if you bid to make sure you are legit, f we do please reply or we will cancel your bid. Up for Auction: LOW FAIR RESERVE !!! These cars are getting harder to find esp in this condition that are still affordable to most buyers.
DRIVETRAIN: this car has its factory V8 with again a rebuilt carb. Buicks famous Nailhead motor and shiftless auto trans. The starter switch on the floor still works and It starts and runs great for me all the time. The battery is pretty old but seems to be keeping up for now. Currently the cooling system is a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Motor sounds good and runs smooth for not being tuned up or touched for 20+ yrs. Brakes work, ut I wouldnt trust them too long due to how long the car sat. The original muffler is toast and its a little loud but sorta Rat Rod ish sounding the way it is.
INTERIOR: take a look at the pics, he interior of this car is pretty well worn out and probably the first thing you would want to repair. It seems very complete and the chrome isnt too bad of shape. The chrome inside is in really nice shape and there is alot there. Floors seem very solid, hen you look at the picsfrom under the car, br>they did get some rust from the inside out, ostly the very front floorboards thanks to the lovely rubber floormats and yrs of sitting. Pretty sure rest of the floors are savable. So some metal work there will be needed, ut still far less then most of these cars that are not restored. Seeing as this car has been in NM for most of its life, t has less rust then most 50 yrs old cars, nd less rot.
EXTERIOR:the body is pretty clean on a car this old and I dont see any real previous damage or repaired areas that may of been done when it was sprayed the current yellow about 30+ yrs ago. Some mild rust in a few parts of the body, heck out ALL the large clear pics below. Front windshield and 1 side glass cracked, nbsp;rest looks okay.Front and rear lights all working as do the blinkers too, aking it okay to drive at nite the way it is. With the patina like it is, ost buyers would leave it and drive it. Or try to get back to the original blue as mentioned prior. OR they would restore the hell out of it ! or RESTO MOD the heck out of it !! All the stainless looks to be accounted for too, hink it may be missing 1 or 2 pcs.
SUSPENSION:the suspension feels like a big tuna boat, ut really it still rides like a big ol Buick, nbsp;and the tires are in decent shape too. No weird noises coming from the car while gliding down the road, ut Im sure its going to need some bushings replaced in the near future because its not restored and of its age. At least for now once some things are fixed it may be okay enough the way it is to ride around town, dont see any reason why not. Check out ALL the pics below ----->
it may take a full minute for them all to load ifyou have a slow connection, o be patient AND looks for the extra scroll bar on the right side. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az and NM are very dry climate. more infoAFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.
There you have it, robably The BEST represented BUICKS on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, ope you appreciate them. We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, t still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days speaks volumes. This is NOT OUR MOST RUST FREE CAR we have sold over the years, ut its still better then most out there for sale or bondo-ed up to look restored. I can tell you though, f you look down the sides of this car on both Sides, dont see tons of waves running down the body like some cars Its still so clean, f the car doesnt sell, m okay with that too because Id love to keep it its that nice. Also, f you buy a car thats been "restored", ho knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating. People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are fast, or a quick buck and quality suffers.

The floorboards may not be as clean as I was thinking, nd although they feel firm when stepping on them, rom underneath they look to be worse then I thought. They are available new at least so depending on what you want to do with the car if you win it, t may need new floors. Also of all things I noticed the water was low today while moving the car around the driveway, nd it looks like the waterpump is leaking. Its not pouring out, ut the seal is leaking. So before it gets put back on the road for long long trips, he water pump will need to be rebuilt. Als, ast thing, he old bias ply tires are more dry rot then when I checked them last Spring. Granted, ure they will be replaced right away anyways if the car gets a new owner, ut I still wanted to mention it now and the other things so there are no surprises if the car sells.
On Jan-02-16 at 12:43:48 PST, eller added the following information: Just for the record, his is NOT a Roadmaster but is the Special Wagon but pretty sure those bidding know the difference etc.And we dont have the original air cleaner for it, orry.
