Description of 1939 Buick Special

1939 Buick Special Eight

NO RESERVE AUCTION

Pre-War Survivor

A true survivor doesn't come around very often. This 1939 Buick Special with its original straight-8 engine looks like it was stored in the barn during the past 78 years. It has been well-maintained and gently driven, a rarity today.

It still shows the factory black paint, and has the original mohair interior, the original glass is all there too and best of all it drives beautifully. Of course, all the lights, turn signals and instrument gauges and other Buick mechanicals are in working order. The factory optional rear wheel Deluxe skirts are real attention grabbers, too.

As pre-war classic collectors will appreciate, this '39 Buick Special has those wild suicide doors. It also has the original 248 CID straight-8 engine, a powerful step-up from the previous straight-6. Other desirable traits include the classic vee-shaped hood that sets it apart from other classics of the period.

From 1936 to 1958, the Buick Special model represented the marque's entry level full-size automobile. It came in coupe or four-door. The Special underwent a full restyling for 1939, with 122-inch wheelbase, a more enclosed nose and a wider grille as the headlights continued their migration from either side of the hood to the tops of the front fenders.

This example will take you everywhere, and is cosmetically and mechanically sound.

All exterior and interior chrome and trim is intact and straight and is in good to excellent condition and the prominent front grille is really a stand out that calls attention to the early craftsmanship of these vehicles. Even the trunk area is original to the year and is in great shape, featuring the OEM trunk liner. The interior headliner is in outstanding condition, too.

It has a three-speed manual transmission with the factory column mounted shifter. The shifter knob and steering wheel are original Bakelite style and are in great condition with no noticeable cracking, peeling or damage (see photos).

Like all survivors, it retains the factory original AM radio with Buick spelled out on the push-buttons, dash-mounted clock, and factory original Buick Air Control system. Tires are new Garfield-Antique Nylon (6.50-16).

Don't miss out on this on because it won't be available for long. It has a clean title, and ready for your garage. Ask me about private inspection and/or shipping. Serious bidders only.
