Description of 1940 Buick Special |
1940 BUICK SPECIAL MODEL 56S SPORT COUPE “Sparkling with Brilliant Beauty and Swift in Action as it is in line, a Brand New Buick makes its bow before the American Motoring Public.” From 1936 to 1958, Buick’s Special model range represented the marque’s entry level full-size automobile. The Special underwent a full restyling for 1939, with 122-inch wheelbase, a more enclosed nose and a wider grille as the headlights continued their migration from either side of the hood to the tops of the front fenders. The Instrument panel – with its Special two-toned silver like finish, is a thing of Surpassing Beauty. Dials are mounted under convex glass, and are handsomely decorated in bronze and ivory. Micropoised Dynaflash valve-in-head straight-eight engine, driven through the Buick torque-tube drive, and equipped with the famous “full float” BuiCoil Springing. This engine was made from 1931 o 1953 and sold in Buick automobiles. Like many American automobile makers, Buick adopted the straight-8 engine in 1931 as a more powerful alternative to the previous inline-6 engines. However, unlike most other car makers at the time, Buick had been using a valve-in-head/OHV overhead valve design or I-head since its inception and continued this practice in their inline-8 designs. In earlier years, the engines used cast-in-place bearings that were then machined, which made engine rebuilding an expensive procedure, but after 1937, they began using drop-in bearings. The last year for the Buick Special’s straight-8 was 1953. Finished in Stunning Black, with Bedford Cord Mohair Interior, this Magnificent Example is a Fully Documented CA (2) Owner Estate Classic, and has traveled only 68,000 miles from new. It has been Meticulously Maintained to the Highest Standards. It is largely original throughout, (except for minor touch up.) It comes highly optioned with:
This Extremely Rare Original Coupe is in Excellent Overall Condition. It runs “Whisper Soft” at Highway Speeds and is an Absolute Joy to Drive. It Garners all the “Oohs & Aahs” anytime out!!! |
