Description of 1918 Buick E45 |
1918 Buick E45 Touring 5 Passenger – 101 Years Old! This Buick was owned by my late grandfather, who purchased it from a local Elgin resident in 2010. Overall the vehicle is in good condition and runs and drives well. During our ownership, it has been stored inside a heated garage and never driven in the rain. We have no reason to dispute the mileage and to the best of our knowledge, it is accurate. The engine is a 242 cubic inch straight 6 putting out ~25HP. To improve the starting and driving experience we have added an additional battery. The starting circuit is an 8-volt battery, to give a little extra boost, while the ignition circuit is powered by a 6-volt sealed gel battery. The distributor was just completelyrebuilt in late 2018. The engine is in good condition, with plenty of power, and does not smoke. The original Marvel updraft carburetor has been replaced by a Zenith carburetor of a similar era. The transmission is a 3-speed, with reverse, and shifts well. The exterior of the car is in good condition with wooden spoked wheels and 34 x 4 tires, with some cracking. The spare tire is in need of replacement, refer to the photos. This Buick has front and rear leaf spring suspension with only rear brakes which work well. To our knowledge, the vehicle has not been repainted and the exterior black paint is in good condition. There is no top, however, there is the top cover which is shown in the photos. The interior features a dark green dash, real wood steering wheel, and black leather upholstery. The front seat was reupholstered by my grandfather and I would say the rear seat is original. Overall this Buick is, Good - Very Good condition, and is a lot of fun to drive around on a nice day. Available for inspection, please contact me.
