Description of 1965 Buick Electra |
1965 Buick Electra 225 Convertible. All original. no modifications or tampering with. and un-restored as is. Excellent no rust out body. excellent interior. This car has been stored for several years with it's last registration and last NY inspection in 2004. I have changed nothing on the car with the exception of cleaning it. Following the removal of the spark plugs. the cylinders and valve train were lubricated. the engine was turned over with a breaker bar on the crank shaft which turned freely about 8 revolutions. The oil was changed and the engine was turned over by battery to lubricate. Gas tank was drained and engine was started with a direct gas can feed. It started immediately and runs great. I have driven the car for about 20 miles with no issues other than the bias ply tires are hard. dry rot cracks and flat spots. It has the original convertible top boot in excellent condition. The trunk is very clean. has all of it's original panel partitions and is jack complete with the exception of the original lug wrench which is missing. The spare tire cover is original. The car has not been tuned and no mechanical or cosmetic work has been performed so the buyer will get it exactly as it was and can make their own improvements their own way. Everything is original on the car right down to the Buick tissue dispenser. Based upon my judgement it has the following flaws through use: small dent in front driver side fender at the upper point about the size of a quarter. paint is checked or spider webbed on the driver side rear quarter panel about 10" by 8" area just below the "225" script. and one paint chip has fallen off in that area. about 5 small scratches and dings through normal wear around the car. The passenger side rear bumper lower corner is rusted and chrome is peeling. The rear fender small vertical trim is taped to the fender. I did not remove the tape to check the fasteners. The interior is missing 1 knob from the radio. The carpet is original and in decent condition. however. while in storage "workers" smoked inside the car and unfortunately butted their cigarettes out on the transmission hump. the V in the bottom of the steering wheel. and on the dash pad. The dash pad does not have burn indentations and can re-coated if needed. There are no cracks in the dash pad. The steering wheel burn is about the size of a 50 cent piece and can be smoothed. buffed and re-coated if needed. The front carpet could be replaced or repaired utilizing a section of carpet under the front seat. Chrome is good on the car and stainless is good. Pot metal has the typical pits that form underneath the chrome producing little bumps in the plating. The engine bay appears to be all original and correct with no modifications. It's running AC Delco E235 plugs which I believe are original to the car. For it's age the block paint is in very good condition. however. I did not detail the engine. It does appear to have some body paint over spray in some locations all though I'm no expert in this area of assembly line work or later body repair. In all. this car is a beautiful survivor looking for a new home and needed exercise. It will take very little to make it road worthy with tuning and tires or a show piece easy restoration.
