1971 Buick Electra 225 Going from the first car being built in David Dunbar Buick's garage, to having Harley Earl pen the first concept car in the form of the Y job in 1938, Buick has become synonymous with luxury. That design included a waterfall grille, and it is used on all Buick models even today. For consignment, a large steel slabbed, vinyl topped 1971 version of the 225. 225 was named because the car was 225 inches long. This version being slightly longer. Mostly original and a nice cruiser, this car presents in overall good condition. Exterior From its early 70's squared off version of the waterfall grille, with dual flanking round headlights and slightly pointed bumper, this car was meant to butt into the Cadillac market and it even resembles the Caddies of this era. A long massive hood, big swinging 4 doors, a nice big black vinyl top and trunk with room for 2, we see straight steel slabs and good gapping. This all covered with Tealmist Gray (excepting the Black Vinyl top!). Chrome is all in good condition and badging is all there and correct looking good. 15-inch Buick Rallye style wheel covers are all around, and nice chrome tipped dual exhaust peeks out from under the large rear bumper. Interior A snazzy woven oval and diamond pattern padded broadcloth in blue covers a wood appliqu framed area of the door panel. Within are numerous controls for power windows, and power mirrors. This pattern continues to abound inside on the tuck and roll sewn dual benches, front bench sporting a central fold down armrest. Smooth vinyl bolsters have a bit of chrome trim on the edges for highlighting and protection. Turning to the dash it is dripping 1970's square simple styling, and presents with nice clean chrome surrounding trim, and wood appliqu. An aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD player has been carefully installed in where the original radio was. Blue headliner is tight, and plush clean blue carpet provides a sea of comfort for the passengers. The air conditioning is cold, and all power options work save for the power front seat. It does not go rearwards. Drivetrain A nice clean engine bay with a spiffy engine in the form of a 455ci V8 which is original to this car sits within it. A single 4-barrel carburetor feeds the mill, and a numbers matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is on the back of the engine. A 10-bolt 2.94 great rear axle is seen as well. Undercarriage Slight surface rust on the usual undercarriage suspects, but nothing remarkable. Structurally sound, and well maintained, and fully functional. Drive-Ability Not unlike your Grandfather's Cadillac in looks, this car started quickly, idled so that you could not even hear it, and was comfortable to sit in. Driving was a breeze literally as we had the windows open, and realized quickly that this is a quality car, with any previous problems sorted out on the drivetrain, suspension, and handling side. It cruised like dream and we had room for half the Classic Auto Mall marketing/car moving crew who came along for the ride! All were in agreement this is a cool early 1970's car and enjoyed their ride immensely...but it did get them out of work so it may be all relative. A nice dose of early 1970 Detroit iron, where status was measured by the inch and in this car, you are a bit over 225 of them. Interesting interior pattern, and comfortable cushy seating, big exterior, and topped off with black vinyl, all in nice functioning, clean condition, ready to be enjoyed.
