1965 Buick Special The term "Stance" or "Stanced" is often used to describe a car customization style. ... Key elements of the stance style are: lowered suspension (lowering springs, coil overs or air suspension), large wheels, stretched tires and negative camber. For consignment a high stance car that initial impression would be a mild-mannered family car, until one gets in and realized you are really in a muscle car. The beneficiary of a frame off restoration to the exterior its original interior save for the carpet remains untouched, wonderful glass beaded steel panels with just a touch of rust appearing at the bottom of the driver side fender and doors, and those high black wall tires. Looks like a sleeper, but it's in reality a snapper (of your neck!) Exterior Meticulously refinished on the exterior with the body off, we now are left with straight steel slabs, no dents, and very nice paint in Seafoam Green. Chrome brite-work, trim and badging are all good with small dimpling on some surfaces. Exterior-wise the car looks like it just drove out of the showroom. Seafoam colored steel wheels with generic Buick chromed hubcaps and black wall tires add to the supposed utilitarian "more door" sedan look. Careful though, I spotted those dual chrome tipped exhaust peeking out from that rear bumper! Interior With ultra clean seats and door panels, this car appears from the interior that it has never been driven, let alone sat in. Striped woven Fawn cloth vinyl with center gold smooth wide vinyl stripe on the front and rear seats is just beautiful. Dash is pristine, new carpet in light gold abounds, and headliner is tight. Keep it simple is the mantra for this interior. But wait! another clue is rearing its head, or rather knob...what's up with that shifter...hmmmmm is that used for taking the family for a ride? Drivetrain Ok the Wildcats' out of the bag, a gleaming wonderfully restored and rebuilt engine is beckoning you to look closer, and I did. I saw 340 cubes in the form of a nailhead V8 topped by an MB 340ci 4-barrel carburetor and a Tremec 5-speed racing transmission and Hurst shifter. Also mounted is a 10-bolt rear with 3.55 gears and a Posi unit. AH HA! it's really a race car..awwwwww I knew sumthin was up. Undercarriage When the body was off, the entire undercarriage was redone with new paint, any rust remediated, new bolts, lines and hoses, were all replaced. As a result, the underside looks as good as the topside, and is showing independent coil spring front suspension and 4 link rear suspension. Drum brakes are all around and the 255/60R15's in blackball are a nice touch and give the car its great high stance. The 3-inch pipes for the exhaust are all welded and running thru Flowmaster mufflers. Drive-Ability It's like getting into a new car with the clean interior, and newly mounted in dash extra gauges look like factory installed. She lights right up and has a sound that you do not expect...Throaty to say the least. It runs beautifully, has lots of snap, and shifts easily. Handling is good under slow regular driving speed, and brakes grab nicely, although they pull to the right. The windshield wipers were inoperable during my drive. A true sleeper as the consigner states, looking like a mild mannered "more door" sedan grocery getter, you are in for some unleashing of sound and speed right out of 1965. And I love the high stance. It looks like it's moving when standing still. Fooled ya!
