Description of 1989 Buick Reatta

In 1988, Buick unveiled what they hoped would be their new flagship model: a sleek, stylish personal luxury coupe packed with bleeding-edge technology that would attract young up-and-coming buyers. What they failed to take into account, however, was that, even in the late '80s, the name "Buick" was synonymous with "get off my lawn, you danged whippersnappers!" and no amount of LCD displays or multifunction touchscreens or pop-up headlights was going to change that perception in young buyers, especially not when the Reatta was only a few thousand cheaper than a Corvette and not nearly as prestigious. The result was a fascinating, head-turning, sumptuously comfortable commercial flop that's almost never seen in the wild, let alone in a reasonably good condition.
And don't let the paint damage fool you--this car is in good condition. Not a speck of rust on it anywhere, it still runs as strong as it did new (not saying much, but these engines are compatible with the Series I L63's supercharger setup), and the only issues of note are the passenger window, sunroof, and tape deck. Not only does the A/C still blow ice cold, the factory-original multi-function touchscreen works flawlessly, to the delight of my sci-fi nerd of a girlfriend (and, indeed, my sci-fi nerd of a self). This car's a real diamond in the rough--mechanically sorted, just in need of a bit of polish. It already turns heads at car shows, could easily be restored to factory condition with decidedly little money or effort, is a junkyard supercharger away from being an absolute terror of a sleeper car...or, heck--just keep it as is and make it your weekend/road trip mule! At less than 75,000 miles on the odometer, this old Reatta's still got more than enough life left in here to pull daily-driver duty. Just be ready to get mobbed by curious onlookers wherever you park it!
