Description of 1947 Buick Other |
Located for sale in a 19th century barn. n remote Claremont New Hampshire. having been stored within for well over six years. three of which entailed the owners awaiting their local machine shop to complete the Buick's 248 cubic inch Dynaflash engines complete rebuild. this post war 1947 Buick Super Eight was an interesting find. Marketed. and sold to a generation recently returned from a World War. Buick successfully sold 83. 76 50 series models for $1689. 00. expensive for 1947. considering the average price of a car was $1300. 00. and a loaf of bread $0. 13. This success and was based on Buick's superior ride provided by coil spring suspension. comfort and luxury. and the 50 series models reputation for ruggedness. durability. fueled by its legendary Dynaflash Fireball inline eight cylinder engine. The previous couple who owned this fun and iconic sedan. maintained it for well over 35 years. occasionally driving it on short trips. and in parades. Having acquired and sorting it. I proceeded to assemble and complete the partial new engine install. which was initially and minimally installed by the former owners to facilitate only starting it. All new fluids were added. nbsp;electrical connections cleaned. repaired and organized. uel system flushed. its new clutch and valve train properly adjusted (. 015 hot) to name just a few items addressed. The Buick Super's engine start and runs nicely. nbsp;with no unusual noises. leaks or smokes. and its shifting is smooth and quiet. The Buick Super's wheels are 15" steel wheels and radial tires. with very a very rare and unique set of original late 1950's "Spinner" chrome front hubcaps. and original restored Buick rear hubcaps with red Buick center logos. The Buick Supers under square (torque) engine has been bored . 030 over and now displaces more than its original 248 cu/in. with a rated original horsepower of 110@3600 rpm. Receipts for all the new rebuild components accompany the car. The price of the complete rebuild. parts. labor machine work etc. was well in excess of four thousand dollars. The three speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and quietly with no issue. followed by a 4. 45 gear ratio differential which provides for a lively start from first gear. Refinished a number of decades ago. the Buick's Canterbury Blue paint is showing its age with some flaking and chipping primarily at the body seams and random areas of the sheet metal. Minor scuffs and dents are present. Some surface rust appears in these locations. however it has been neutralized by a good coat of Carnauba wax. The overall body. frame. quarters. rocker panels. suspension. floors are solid. Stainless trim is in good condition. as is all the glass with the exception of the drivers window and associated wing window which illustrates a crack. Windows operate nicely and firmly in their tracks. Interior upholstery and trim is very nice and in excellent condition. Cabin space will provide enough room for the entire family. nbsp;mother in law (back seat. or trunk. depending on the day). dog. (front seat please). and luggage. All lights function as originally designed. The fuel gauge and temperature gauge are not functioning. nbsp;however a remote and more precise coolant temperature gauge is mounted to the lower right. The Super's body architecture cuts a lot of air when in motion (i. e. it's a large sedan). with a oxygen gulping front chrome grill. intimidating enough to alert any pedestrian to not cross in front of it (providing of course they are not on their cell phone). and flowing extended fender lines consolidating the front and rear fenders into one sweeping gracefull motion. In conclusion. the Buick Super Eight is a very respectable and nice driver quality sedan. comfortable in its ride provided by coil springs. and amply powered by its higher torque inline eight cylinder Dynaflash Fireball Eight engine. Very iconic in its body design. with sweeping wide fenders. and long wheel base. it garners quite a bit of attention when on the roads. Certainly fun. The 1947 Buick Super Eight will be sold as is. where is. with no warranty expressed or implied. I highly recommend personal inspection prior to sale. and will not permit so after auction end as a condition of sale. * I reserve the right to end the auction early. given the Buick Super is for sale locally and on other sales venues. I will be happy to store the Buick for a reasonable time following auction end and provide any assistance I can regarding transportation information or references. **Bidders with a feedback score of ten (10) or less. please contact me prior to bidding. thus insuring your bid won't be cancelled. It would be appreciated. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. and kindly. not the reserve price. which has been fairly and affordably set referencing Old Cars Report Price Guide and NADA for an "average" car. not taking into consideration the brand new engine and clutch. Thank you for the interest. best of luck. and enjoy the pictures. Best regards. Chris. 413-575-8600. No texts please. Thanks. |
