Description of 1948 Buick Roadmaster |
1948 Buick Roadmaster Convertible-True Barn Find with 37. 00 original miles!!!! This is a project. but boy what a great starting point-This could be a serious high dollar car and extremely desirable-So here is the story behind the car-It was originally purchased in 1948 and was used as a chauffeur driven car for a woman-it was then sold as part of her estate in 1961--the Gentleman bought the car with 30. 00 miles on it-He drove it 7. 00 miles and parked the car in 1974 in the upstairs of a barn. It has remained there ever since till I pulled it out-Now you want talk about a rust free car-this car has zero rust--I mean none!!! The under carriage of the car is immaculate-No rust. no rot. no repairs-I have never seen this clean of a car-especially for a 1948 and a convertible to boot-Its amazing how nice the body is on this car--It has had one repaint on a rust free body-No bondo no rust ever-Please see the pics of the car-especially the undercarriage--Now don't get me wrong this car needs a restoration-But its mostly interior and top-The interior is the original interior is very dry rotted-and the top is the original from 1948--I got the car and obviously it wasn't running-So it took us about 5 hours to get the car out of the barn-As it was stored on the 2ndfloor of this barn-And that would explain why the undercarriage is so nice on the car and why it has no rust-It wasn't anywhere near the ground---So after we got it out I took it home and cleaned it up--It had 42 years of dirt on it-It actually cleaned up extremely well-And has a ton of parts with it-So I then took it to my mechanic to determine if the car would run-Well low and behold it didn't need to much to get it started It actually had to have the fuel lines hooked up-and they ran a scope into the gas tank-it was bone dry but rust free on the inside-It was then just a matter of getting it to run-It does now run-It actually fired up pretty quick-and really runs quite well--It smokes some but I was told that's just because the car hasn't been run in 40 years--But still needs some tinkering and tuning-my goal was to make sure the motor wasn't froze up and knocking or making any noises--and sure enough it runs fantastic-No noises at all-It does have a massive oil leak from the side valve cover-so that will need to be addressed-The radiator is good. as are all the components such as starter generator and all that stuff is good--we did have to make a bracket for the generator-but that was all that was missing-So right now it has oil dripping onto the exhaust from the leaky gasket--I couldn't believe it starts right up--It has that funny old system where you turn the key on then push on the gas pedal to engage the starter-But it works-I have a brand new correct original style battery that comes with it -All the lights work. as do all the gauges-Battery . il pressure gas gauge--they all work-Dash lights work. even the map light works-The blower motor works--even the rear heater motor works--The power windows are not working-as the hydraulic pump is dumping fluid from the line off the pump on the front fender mount--It is also missing the 2 vent windows on the front doors--I have all the brackets but am missing the glass-So it needs new seats door panels and carpet and a top--The exterior is really nice!!! its missing 2 pieces of trim--one on the hood that got bent and the one on the front fender--The rest of the trim is good to excellent-the bumpers are new-he had them wrapped in newspaper-it comes with spare bumpers and chrome trim-tons of extra stuff-I also have the original spare tire from 48--The car had a restoration started by someone and he started taking the car apart-But everything that's off the car is there and comes with it-and spare parts that could be sold as well-Like I said its a project car-but when its done this car is worth big bucks--But it is indeed a project and needs some of the parts put back on-see the pics and you will see some of the trim and stuff is off the car-so look closely-The engine is the original straight eight with the dyna flow trans--the trans is good in the car--It also has all new brakes. brake lines and wheel cylinders-so it stops like it did in 48-Please look at all the pics and ask questions please--So there ya go--its a rare big dollar car when restored-Its a project car but im telling you if you want to restore a roadmaster this is the best one you will ever find--Its so rust free-It needs interior. top and some tuning on the motor-But it does run and drive-smokes a little but it just needs to be run-Its been sitting since 1974!!its a 2 owner car with 37. 00 miles-Just look at the pics-and I believe I have all the parts to finish putting humpty back together again with the exception of what I listed above-Its definitely a cool car-but needs to be restored and is a project-so don't think your hopping in it and driving it home-Its leaking too much oil! it needs that valve cover gasket-Please feel free to ask questions--and feel free to come and inspect the car-I tried to list everything I know--I encourage you to inspect the car for yourself--Check all the value guides out there and see what this car is worth--Its big money!-and try and find one that's this rust free--Yes its a project-But its all there! and rust free!On Apr-30-15 at 11:39:35 PDT. seller added the following information: I added a picture of the motor-and the reserve was met and the car will be sold-Please read the ad carefully and feel free to come and inspect the car-The car still retains its 1974 Sticker on the windshield-And to answer a few questions-this is a project car as stated in the ad--You cant drive it home--Its a high dollar car when restored -But needs restoration-I have a lot of parts that were with the car when I got it-Im not a 1948 Buick specialist-I think I did a good job describing the car-but please feel free to come and inspect the car--Or if you would like specific pictures please feel free to ask-I will gladly take them for you-Or may already have them-This is a serious auction for serious buyers-Like I said its a project but its worth a ton of money when its done--try to find another rust free car like this one- |
