68 Caddy Convertible: Make no mistake this is a project car. But its a great car and much work has been done. I bought this back in 09 with the intentions of getting it back to its former glory. Found it in Columbus Ohio sitting under a tree with a for sale sign in it. Little old lady answered the door and told me it was her husbands. He had died and she needed to sell it. She flipped me the keys and I got in and it fired right up. I was hooked immediatley and had big plans for it. I had it shipped here to North Canton and started working on it. I got the brakes working and took her for a drive! I must say this is one of the best convertibles I've ever been in. Smooth quiet and powerful with an incredible ride. Well the maiden voyage didnt last long before problems started arising from all the years of sitting. I limped her home and after the process of elimination I realized the timing chain was bad. So i tore into the massive 472 ci engine. I replaced most of the external engine parts as I dug into the motor. Belts, oses, ater pump, lugs, ires, ilters, attery, nd even ordered a rebuilt Rochester 4 barrel carburator from Summit Racing. Well I got the engine running but didnt have a timing light so as I recall she was out of time a bit but you could tell she was a runner. No smoke or funny sounds just a bit out of time. My plan was to get her road ready and send her off for body work and paint. Thats when my kids entered college and this poorly timmed project hit a screetching hault. She is in the same condition as you see in the pictures but shes stripped down as I said I was shooting for paint and body work. So all the trim is off, op was unsalvageable so its off, rill is off etc. So it doesnt look like the pictures. But the body is in the same condition. Been stored inside the whole time. I got the top frame working, ll the windows, o amuch has been done but their is much to be done too. One really great thing on the car. I found out it was from Florida. The frame and all the floor pans are in amazing condition. It has the typical rust behind the front wheels and rear quarters that these cars were known for. Trunk sleeps four adults! Car is 5000 lbs and is 20' long! 7.7 ltr engine! Its an absolute hoot built in the days of bigger is better! I must say my favorite old caddys are the 56's and 68's. The lines on this car are beautiful. Hurts to let her go but she deserves to be back on the road. I have all the trim plus extra things I bought as I seen them. Leather is in useable driver condition, arpet is like new. These cars bring between 10k-30k depending on the quality of the restoration. This is a good restorable car with around 50k on the odometer. All the glass is good. Engine hasnt been started in several years but I'm sure she'll run. Tranny lines leaking but when I drove her the three speed was smooth as silk so I think the tranny is good. Clear title. Pictures shown here are to indicate condition. Again car has trim and top removed. Not driveable currently so plan on towing her home. Car has been stored indoors in a very safe and dry area. Condition is the same as you see here. These pics were taken when I brought her home. I had her running and driving within days but I went through the process of upgrading old parts and reconditioning her as needed so much of that and the expense has been done. It will not take much to get her going down the road. She has been sitting the last five years so no doubt it will take a little effort to get her fired up. Rear bumper has a dent on the left side. Doesnt show up well in the photos but its in an area that can be pounded out. Dumb*** from u-ship lost it off the trailer and rolled it into a fire hydrant!!! I also found perfect rear bumper inserts that will be included and original 68hubcaps. The only major piece you will need to buy is a top. Those are listed here on ebay for $200. This is a beautiful car and deserves to be back on the road again. All trim and removed parts were labeled and tagged. Ready for finishing mechanicals, ody, aint, nd a top.
