Description of 1946 Cadillac Series 60 |
This sale is for a 1946 Cadillac Series 60. The car has the 346 Tank engine as it is referred to, ue to being same engine they used in the m24 Stewart Tank, nd Chaffee Tank in WW2. Cadillac had to shift its production from the war effort back to regular production. They did not make cars for 43,44,and 45 for the public.. Cadillacs were scarce in 1946 and only approx 29,000 were built. If you were lucky enough to get one you could turn around and sell it for more than you paid for it. Cadillac went into 1947 with over a 100,000 unfilled orders. This cars Vin number is #44206403735, he body number is 3805. The Style number is 46-6069 making it a series 60. There were only 5,700 of these produced in 1946. The Series 60 Special was the largest chassis sedan and was only a mere 3 inches shorter than the limo(Series 75). This car originally came from New York where it was supposedly bought new for a mobster named Vito Genovese when he got out of prison and some time later given to a family member. Apparently he was a pretty scary guy. In the 1970s the car ended up at a gas station in N.J. being restored to look like (oddly enough) an Elliot Ness car. While there, t was bought before being finished by a woman named Florence L. who stopped to get gas, aw it, ell in love, ought it, nd spent over 9000.00 having the car refinished and painted its original color. It was painted with Cavern green, itzler Duracryl Laquer. DDL-2471D. She owned several restaurants and bars (one of them being Raubsville on the Delaware) She took the car to California for a few years and then drove it back to Pa in the 80s. After being in storage for years she sold the Cadillac to a elderly gentleman she knew who had known the car from many many years earlier and had always liked it. He took it to his secluded property literally on the New York, a border. Age and ill health prevented him from doing much with it and the car languished. It was an experience to meet him. I wont say much more about him here, ther than he was a "Good fella". To continue, he car has a new factory wiring harness, t will start and run on a separate gas can. It can be driven around to be moved under its own power but has no brakes from sitting. The gas tank needs to be flushed. the engine sounds good and the transmission bites right into gear. The brakes need to be gone over. The cars shell has peeling, here is a rust hole over the left headlight, he right looks perfect. There is typical rust and scaling on the the floors, and back side of rockers here and there that will need attention. but it is Not a Flintstone mobile. You can take your foot and stomp on the floors and your not going to be falling through. Trunk pan has some rust spots here and there and around edges. The seats look pretty decent. The car has a hand crank sun roof called a Sunshine turret top. There are a bunch of spare parts for the car, enses, rim, oldings, new fuel pump, riginal glass wiper washer tank, nd other misc items. The car does have the original radio in a box. This is an Antique historic vehicle. It is being sold As-Is Where-Is for restoration. It may have signs of and or wear, ear, ade, rack, ust, wirl, ing, ent, aze, cratch and or other imperfections and or may require replacement, aintenance, epair, ervice of any and all components. This would be a great car to restore or a fairly easy car for someone mechanical to put back on the road. With only 5,700 produced, he Series 60 in 1946 was the top of the line and the most luxurious model offered.
