Description of 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood |
1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Sedan Collector Owned Meticulously cared for car Only 44,500 original miles! Here’s one you do not see very often… A “blast from the past” sedan that remains the ultimate in motoring luxury, for a discriminating few… This example has been very well cared for since new, having had one original owner (1981-2006), followed bycollector ownershipthereafter. It was originally purchased at Lindburg Cadillac in St. Louis, Missouri on June 5, 1981 with 25 miles on the clock. The original owner was Mike Balsamo. It was sold by Mr. Balsamo’s wife on December 2, 2006 to a private collector and member of the Cadillac La Salle Club in Dallas, Texas, and has been fastidiously cared for since. The car is currently located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The low mileage is documented, and best explained by the wife of the original owner. According to Mrs. Balsamo, the car was only used to drive back and forth to their daughter’s house in the suburbs of St. Louis, and was seldom if ever driven in the rain, andalways garaged. It was their "pride and joy". This regimen has been maintained by the current owner, and the car’s impeccable condition is a testament to this! Consideredvery well optioned and equipped, included with the carare all original documentation including window sticker and bill of sale. Thesewill go to the new owner. The carfeatures soft and suppleleather interior, with no imperfections, along with the rare Astro roof option, Cadillac Garage Door Opener, and all standard accessories including AM/FM Stereo/Cassette Player with Symphonic Sound System Speakers, Twilight Sentinel, Trumpet Horns, Rear Window Defroster, Heated Rear View Mirrors, Automatic Climate Control, Cruise Control, Power Windows / Locks, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Automatic Level Control, and Fiber Optic Front / Rear Lamp Monitors. All of these accessories are in perfect working order! Mechanically, any needed service has always been done to the car as necessary, and the car starts, runs, and drives beautifully. Equipped with the 368 cubic inch fuel injected engine, it operates in 8 cylinder mode all of the time. The variable displacement feature was long ago disconnected by the original owner, but could be reconnected if desired according to our local Cadillac dealer. It has recently had all fluids, filters, belts, and hoseschanged, a new radiator, water pump, idle solenoid, major tune up, and timingchain setreplaced, along withnew shocks, brakes, and wheel cylinders. The A/C remains R-12,but a new compressor, many new components, and full system rechargewere donelast year. It is either ice cold and/or supplying heat depending upon the need. All of these items were done as needed given the age of the car, and desire to have the car fully functional, reliable, and operational. The tires remain in nice condition with the bulk of their tread left, and theyare the correct width factory whitewall. Still also, new front and rear plastic bumper fillers have been obtained, painted the correct Sterling Silver Metallic color, and installed, along with a factory correct Slate Gray Color headliner and sun shade. The exterior paint and coordinating silver color vinyl roof is in near flawless condition, with only a few minor imperfections normal due to age. Both are in amazing condition considering the 1981 vintage of the car. Given I have collecteddozens of these over the years, this one is without question one of the nicest that I have ever had. As with any 35 year old automobile, there will always be something that needs attention no matter how well kept the car is. The items on this car in need of attention are the power antenna, which doesn't go up or down with power as intended, and the muffler, which has a small leak. Related to the antenna, it can be raised or lowered manually. A replacement can be sourced that is new but not original equipment, and/or the current one could be removed and rebuilt for perfection. Apart from this, the car has been recently serviced and extensively detailed so that it is ready for its new owner soon. Considering all of the above, don’t let this rare and exceptional example of America's finest luxury sedan pass you by! Inspections and/or questions are welcomed. Please reach me at 214-546-9588.
