1934 Cadillac 355D Series 20 Town Sedan. (Note: This is a detailed listing of a very special car. Please read carefully.) Located near Portland, Oregon. This car was completed on December 15, 1933 and carries body number 10; one of the first 1934 Cadillacs produced. It was delivered by the William O. McKay Cadillac dealership in Seattle to David Seabury, who was known at the time as "probably the highest paid consulting psychologist in America." Seabury, the author of 15 books on pop psychology was the "Dr. Phil" of his day and while based in New York, he also operated the David Seabury School of Psychology and retreat in the little town of Olga, Washington, on Orcas Island. Living in such a small area, the car saw limited use during Seabury's lifetime. It was always garaged and well mantained. Seabury died in 1960. It passed through three subsequent owners, all in Washington state, before being purchased by the current owner in 2014. (The odometer just turned over 100,000 miles - an average of just 1,219 miles per year over the past 82 years.) Along the way, the original 353 cubic inch, V8 engine and mechanicals have been fully rebuilt (including using modern insert-style rod bearings.) The engine currently has less than 2000 miles since the rebuild. It runs flawlessly. Smooth, quiet and powerful, as a Cadillac should. (See video.) The radiator was re-cored and the car runs cool in all conditions. Recently the starter, generator, regulator, fuel pump, vacuum booster pump (for brakes and windshield wipers) and carburetor were all rebuilt. Auxiliary electric fuel pump added. In additon, the entire mechanical brake system was rebuilt and properly adjusted. The car stops smooth and straight and the brakes rival later hydraulic systems. The four Delco adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers were also just rebuilt, along with the addition of four new Firestone 17" wide whitewall tires on the refinished red wire wheels. The car also wears the extremely rare (and factory original) full disc wheel covers. The car rides beautifully at all speeds. A new exhaust system was also just installed. The rust-free body (originally "Cathedral Gray" color) was stripped to bare metal and refinished in Cadillac "Mocha Metallic" color (which is very similar to 1934 "Lamar Tan.") It is a striking color and elicits comments wherever it goes. The finish is gorgeous and show-quality, with great depth and shine. Please see photos. The wood body framing is solid and in excellent condition throughout. Doors hang propery and close at a touch. The windshield and wing window glass were replaced, as well as all of the rubber seals in the body. Most of the exterior trim has been re-plated, including the one-year-only "bi-plane" style bumpers (unique to the 1934 models) which were just re-chromed. The car was re-upholstered in correct style, including new headliner and carpets. The window garnish moldings and dashboard are in very good condition with 82 year old original finish. The gauges were rebuilt. Clock is not working at present. Original radio is present and hums. Harrison accessory heater works nicely. Interior lights work. The electrical is the original 6 volt system, with two 6 volt Optima batteries running in parallel for easy starting when hot or cold. New, 6 volt halogen headlght bulbs for BRIGHT driving at night. Auxiliary fog lights and period-style turn signals added for safe driving in modern traffic. The 1934 Cadillacs were a tour d'force in design with dramatic art deco styling that was unique to that year. The total 1934 production of all Series 20 (136" wheelbase) Cadillacs (in all body styles) was only 2,729 cars. Just 6 of these Town Sedans are known to survive today. Recently, this car was shown at the 2016 Cadillac & LaSalle Club Grand National Meet in Las Vegas. It was among 130 cars shown. It was judged at the meet in Touring Class 1 (for cars from 1902-1935 that are regularly driven) with the Cadillac Club's 200-point judging system that scores all areas of appearance and operation. When the scores were tabulated, this car received the 2016 National First Place Award. If you are looking for the best of both worlds - a rare model Cadillac of show quality that is fully sorted and ready to drive anywhere, this is the one. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its rarity and quality. Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS, WORLDWIDE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
