1964 Cadillac DeVille Convertible First Year DeVille Convertible White / White Long Term Ownership 7.0L 429cid V8 / Automatic Transmission 112,660 Miles Vin # 64F013768 64: 1964 Model Year F: DeVille Convertible 013768: Production Number Engine Number: 1481288 (Correct for ‘64 Deville, believed original) Evolve Motors and Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1964 Cadillac DeVille Convertible! What We Know: We purchased this car from a gentleman in North Dakota who had owned it for just over twenty years. As it sits, this car in is in great driver-level condition, having been garage-kept and treated well. It’s big, fantastic to look at, and glides down the road like it’s riding on air. As this car is a ‘64, it’s actually the first year of the DeVille Convertible. While there are some minor cosmetic blemishes, the car feels phenomenal on the road, is quite nice underneath, and still retains the original 7.0L 429cid V8. For somebody that wants a ‘64 DeVille Convertible that they plan to actually drive, rather than just confine to a collection, this car is an excellent fit. The Exterior: White over white suits the DeVille Convertible very well. While the convertible top is in great shape, we rarely find ourselves putting the top up. It just looks and feels so right top-down. White paint is a respray, and does show some signs of age. When we got the car, there was a large scratch on the driver’s door; we removed the door and repainted it. As a result, the finish on the driver’s door is a bit better than the rest of the car. There are a few scratches that have been touched up scattered about the car. The most significant is on the lower portion of the driver’s rear quarter, ahead of the rear wheel. The other is on the lower driver’s front fender. There’s some minor chipping on the lip/underside of the hood, which has been touched up and is only noticeable upon close inspection. There are some small bubbles beginning to form under the paint at the very bottom corners of the trunk lid. Paint hasn’t cracked and no rust is showing, but there are bubbles. There is a small bit of rust visible on the underside of the passenger rear corner, just below the taillight’s chrome piece. There is also some minor bubbling at the forward bottom corner of the passenger rear quarter, right where it meets the rear wheel skirt. The body is in excellent shape, with no door dings or damage. Chrome is very nice throughout; chrome has a mirror-like finish, though there are a couple light dings on the rear bumper. Hubcaps are in great shape, with no dings or damage. Tires, while still with tread, are old and therefore should be replaced sooner rather than later. The Interior: The cushy white leather cabin is a great place to be; this car is extremely comfortable and the chrome-heavy dash looks very good. The dash is in fantastic shape, with no cracks or discoloring. Chrome is free of oxidation. Front seats are in nice shape, though the buttons on the front seat bottoms have been removed. There is some minor cracking on the seat-backs, but nothing major and nothing through. Rear seats have their buttons and are in slightly better shape. Black carpeting is excellent throughout, with no fraying or discoloring. Black leather boot cover has a couple small tears where it meets the top of the rear seats. Powered systems are all functional, which includes windows, front seats, convertible top, radio, fan/defrost, lights, signals, and all gauges. The analog clock in the gauge cluster does not appear to be functioning. Five-digit odometer reads 12,659, which we believe has rolled over once. Under the Hood / Under the Car: This car runs and drives very, very well. We’ve been taking it out for lunch pretty routinely here at the shop. I cant think of any other car that fully grown men are excited to hop in the backseat of. There are no tendencies or noises of concern; the car is very confidence-inspiring from a driver’s standpoint. The car starts right up without fault, tracks straight under both acceleration and braking, pulls smoothly and without hesitation, and the suspension is extremely supple and forgiving. The 7.0L 429cid V8, which was the highest-spec engine option at the time, is original, as confirmed by the engine number on the rear top of the block. Underneath, the car is in good shape. All structural components are rock solid, and the floors are excellent. There is, however, one spot of rust on the forward portion of the driver’s side rocker panel. Rust is not in the rocker itself, but the filler piece behind it. Please see the underbody photos for further clarification. Overall, this ‘64 Convertible is an excellent, largely-original driver that just has some minor cosmetic blemishes. We’ve had a ton of fun with it, and is sure to make the next owner very happy.
