It was highly respected among the business community at one time as the primary vehicle of choice. In the entire world there was only one Cadillac…not made in China. not Shanghai GM…. nope simply Detroit…. period. Cadillac used to be “The Standard of the World”. its preeminence made it stand alone in the ultra luxury car arena…untouched. Formidable in stature…. formidable in reputation…. the Cadillac Fleetwood series was the epitome of luxury. and the height of exclusivity & supremacy in a luxury car. Fleetwood crafted all Cadillac interiors. With the elusive Fleetwood. they crafted the entire vehicle bumper to bumper. It rode on its own unique chassis. The Fleetwood Series Sixty-Special had a poised dignity that was the hallmark of every Cadillac. The Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty-Special Brougham d’Elegance rode upon a commanding 133” wheelbase. That is the total size of some full-size cars of today. This wheelbase made any road traveled free of extraneous intrusion. The 1976 Cadillac was powered by an 8. 2 litre 500 CID V8 with a 4-bbl downdraft quadrajet carburetor. This was a similar design of the original 8. 2 litre engine that powered the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado in 1970. which was a banner sales year for Cadillac by the way. The car had full frame construction and was a different chassis from the DeVille/Calais series. A Fleetwood Sixty-Special was a special Cadillac all around. The 1976 Fleetwood Brougham had power everything. Climate control air conditioning. power windows and door locks. power trunk release. power front dual comfort front seats. Automatic level control kept the vehicle at the correct ride height. The front seating had various configurations. either 60/40. 50/50 or 45/45 with center console. It was the rear compartment that set the Sixty-Special apart from the rest of the Cadillac line apart. With the Sixty-Special’s individually longer wheelbase. one could stretch out in the lap of luxury. Carpeted footrests and two individual reading lights were signature features for the Brougham option package. Outside was an Elk grain fully padded vinyl roof with “Brougham” nomenclature applied to the rear sail panels. were standard with this package.
