Description of 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

Body number 394

I bought this highly original Brougham on the Barrett-Jackson auction and shipped it to Europe in 1996. It was painted white at the time, came from the 2nd owner who had it since 1962. Originally it was sold new in Texas. This is one of the most collectible Cadillacs out there. Only 400 of these wonderful cars were made in 1957. It was by far the most expensive car of its day with a price in excess of $ 13,000.-. It was also the most advanced car you could buy. Every luxury was standard including; aircondtioning, power everything, 325 hp V-8, stainless steel roof etc. Apart from a quality repaint, this Brougham is mostly in unrestored, original shape. Like most Broughams it is missing most of the vanity items and has been converted to conventional suspension early in life. Please read detailed description below and contact me if you have any questions.

Vehicle condition:

Exterior: Perfectly straight and solid body. The car was repainted in Holland. Very high quality, mirrorlike finish paintjob, no orange peel or other imperfections. The original color is black (paint code 110). All the chrome is beautiful condition, we believe it has been rechromed in the 1980ties, the inward curves of the rear bumpers have an copper tint to them. The mouldings and stainless trim are in great condition. Also the smaller chrome pieces (like window frames, vent window frames) are in excellent condition. All the glass is perfect. The stainless steel roof in in great shape except for 2 very small (smaller than a penny) dents near the rear window. The 5 original wheels are very good, not pitted, but they have dull finish. The centres have recently been rechromed and have new plastic centercaps.

Interior: The interior is almost all original and in great condition. Trim code 128; Light gray "Parisienne" cloth with white leather. The leather parts have all been redone few years back. The last digit in the trim code is for the carpet, which has been renewed. The door panels are original except for new leather on the armrests. The dashpad is original and is deformed from the heat of the sun. All the interior chrome is original and excellent. Vanities are missing except for the 6 stainless steel tumblers that fit in the glove compartment. The trunk lining is original and has a lot of stains, unfortunately. Battery box is complete.

Mechanical: Original matching number engine runs superb. Dual Quads with the "Batwing" aircleaner. The car has an original air conditioning system (not working), Eldorado horn (3-tone), Autronic Eye, E-Z-Eye glass, power windows in excellent working order. The radio and clock (Eldo-style) and the trunk release button in the glove compartment do not work. The car runs, shifts, steers and brakes as it should. The doors open and close solidly, no rattles. This lovely Cadillac drives great, take it anywhere!

Underside: Very solid floor pans, no rust or bondo repairs, everything looks healthy! The body, frame and undercarriage appear to be free of damage. The trunk floor is rust free. Engine compartment is clean.
