Description of 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible |
Itching to get behind the wheel of your very own drop top land yacht? They just don't come any cooler than this 1973 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. This king-sized cruiser is dressed in a great looking color scheme and is an outstanding driver. It's an awful lot of car - both literally and figuratively - and with all of its massive curb appeal at your disposal, you'll hardly be able to wait to get out on the road and motor past throngs of admiring onlookers. Cadillac saw fit to establish the Eldorado line as its own series the year this '73 debuted. In the process, the model received a facelift that included the addition of a signature "egg-crate" style front grille, new front and rear bumpers, a more refined decklid and rear fenders and re-shaped taillamps. Their handiwork was a rousing success, revitalizing sales and leading to the Eldorado's selection as the official pace car of the Indianapolis 500 that year. Take a leisurely lap around the car and you can see what the fuss was about. Sporting a nearly new matching convertible top that rises into place without issue and features a crystal clear rear window, this Caddy is one seriously cool classic. Despite its more than 45 years of life, it looks great, wearing a coat of attention-getting white paint that appears plenty strong in its present state and would be elevated even further by a detailing session. This Caddy's exterior alignment is on point, with body panels that blend together well and just check out those fender skirts in back! You'll have no problem picturing yourself situated in the driver's seat, surrounded by the spacious blue leather interior. While the bench seats in front and back show some evidence of the passing decades, they remain very well padded and comfortable and free of any major issues, with a matching fold down arm rest in front and fresh carpet lining the floor. You can't help but notice the generous amount of room inside here - plenty to seat three in back, which is a good thing, as you'll have no shortage of willing passengers when you take this beauty out on the road. Driver and passengers alike will ride in comfort, as the air conditioning is running cold and strong, and with the tilt wheel combining with power seats, it's easy to find just the right cruising position. Farther forward, the gauges inside the instrument cluster are still functional behind surprisingly clear lenses and the dash pad above is in fine shape. As you'd likely expect from the size of the deck lid, the trunk area is nearly big enough to stow another car inside. This vintage convertible really runs and drives nicely. There's a 500-cubic inch V8 under that lengthy hood and the sizable engine is fed by factory-style 4-barrel carb and is bolted to a 3-speed automatic transmission that shifts with slip free precision - this ride is ready to hit the asphalt just as soon as you get it home. The power steering remains smooth but precise and, with power brakes on all four corners and discs up front, this sizable car comes to a stop in proper order when called on. Equipped with a coil suspension in back that's noticeably quieter than the leaf spring counterparts of its era, this Cadillac remains in its ideal, low-slung original stance and sits on a set of 15" stock Cadillac wheels sporting ultra clean badged hubcaps.
