Description of 1965 Cadillac Calais Sedan

1965 Cadillac Calais Sedan 40 Years Owned 65,700 Actual Miles From New Well Documented, Bone-Dry North Dakota Car Original Paint & Interior 7.0L 429ci V8 / TH400 Automatic VIDEO WITH LISTING. PUT IN HD, FULL SCREEN, AND ENJOY! VIN: K5216258 K: Calais Sedan 5: 1965 Model Year 216258: Production Numbers Build Date: February, Fourth Week Paint: Aspen White (12) Trim: Light Blue Cloth (220) Accessories: Soft Ray Glass (E), Power Windows (X), Power Front Seat Adjust (Y) Delivered and sold new at Hoff Cadillac of Norfolk, Virginia in August of 1965, this fantastic ‘65 Calais Sedan remained there until January of 1981, when it sold to a dealer, Erwin Motors, in North Dakota. That dealer then sold the car in March of 1981 to a gentleman in North Dakota who kept the car until this earlier this year, when we purchased it from his nephew. This car will come with a good bit of documentation, including the following: Original Owner Protection booklet with Protecto plate and delivery info, owner’s manual, accessories booklet, temporary registration and odometer disclosure (59k) from when the owner bought the car in March of 1981, insurance cards throughout the 80s and 90s, and a couple minor service records through the years. As it sits now, this is a super impressive, low-mile, entirely original example that is ready to be used and enjoyed. The Exterior: Please take a good look through the photos and video, as the car is shown in detail. The video shows close-ups of every blemish on the car. Aspen White paint is original throughout, as confirmed with an elcometer. Readings of 2.5-3.0 on every single panel. There are a number of spots of touch-up throughout, but the original paint has a beautiful, shiny, glassy finish. A few super light dings on the trunk lid and hood….again, shown in the video. Not a spot of filler on the car of course, as the car has never seen body or paint work. Very, very dry car that has been in North Dakota for the last forty years. No bubbling in the lower corners or along the rockers, truly nice and straight. Panel fitment is spot-on, doors/hood/trunk all open and close nice and smooth. Glass and light lenses are clear and crack-free throughout. Lights and signals are all functional as well. Chrome is very nice—mirror-like, not oxidized. We removed it when detailing the car, but the car will come with a Cadillac-brand clear plastic bug screen for the front end. You can see it in the photos of the trunk. The Interior: Original, never reupholstered light blue cloth interior is awfully impressive. Only very minor signs of age. There is some faint discoloring on the driver’s seat seatback/bottom, though this very well may come out with some interior shampoo and scrubbing. There is one puncture, and that is on the outside of the driver’s seat bottom (seen in photos). Front seat is powered and functional. Carpeting shows its age a little bit, but isn’t frayed, pilled, or torn. Same thing with the original floor mats. Dash top is excellent. No damage, cracks, scuffs, discoloring, adhesive marks, etc. Gauges are all functional and odometer reading of 65,700 is accurate based on quality documentation and outstanding original condition. Wipers are good, radio is good, fan/heat/defrost are good. This car does not have air conditioning. Power windows are all functional, interior lights are all good as well. Polished surfaces are excellent—no oxidation, fade, etc. Under the Hood/Underbody: Please take a look through the underbody photos. Underbody is excellent. Gotta love North Dakota. This car has clearly been responsibly owned and kept. No through rust, no underbody damage, no prior metal work. 429ci engine is original, the K-code being correct for a ‘65 Calais Sedan, and the number K5216258 matches that shown on the title, as these cars were titled by engine number prior to the modern VIN system. While this car only saw 6k miles under the last owner’s nearly 40 year stewardship, it has been babied and well-maintained by an enthusiastic owner. The fuel system is clean and clear, the front disc brakes appear to have been recently gone-through, and the drop links in the front end appear to be close to new as well. This car starts right up first turn, idles calm and steady, stays cool, pulls hard through the gears with no hesitation or stuttering, shifts smooth and on-time, doesn’t buck or clunk when going into gear, brakes straight, tracks straight, and has excellent ride quality. No questionable creaks, squeaks or tendencies of concern. Very nice, survivor-level example. For additional information or to discuss purchasing, please reach out to Jake at 773-273-8257.
