Description of 1935 Cadillac Other |
You are bidding on a 1935 LaSalle. I'll start by saying that if you are looking for a Pebble Beach Concours car or an absolutely correct restoration this isn't it. If you're looking for a really neat driver that you can take on road trips and get attention every where you go then please read on. We drive this car. A lot! In fact I drive it almost daily. We've driven the car long distances and it really is a pleasure every time. Just last week we took the car from Los Angeles and went up to the Hearst Castle in central California. This car appears to be an older restoration. The paint looks nice but it does have some chips and scratches here and there. The body is very straight and doesn't appear to ever have been rusty. I see no signs of bondo or rust repair. The floors frame and all visible sheet metal appears to be completely rust free. The interior was redone a few years ago by the previous owner and looks good. The only real flaw in the interior is a burn mark in the left rear carpet. The exhaust was too close and damaged the carpet. The exhaust has since been redone. There are some small pieces of extra carpet that go with the car that could be used to patch in. With lots of cars the magic is all under the hood. Not so in this case. The previous owner tells me the original engine was gone when he got the car. So he installed a Chevrolet 350 with a TH400 auto trans. It's nothing fancy. Typically I prefer original. But I do have to say there is something quite liberating about being able to just hop in the car and drive where ever I desire without worry. The engine isn't modified. It's just a mellow stock 350. Has dual exhaust and is very quiet. This car does NOT sound like a hot rod. There are no other mechanical modifications. The original steering suspension brakes etc are all still in service. The car has a 12v electrical system with a modern wiring harness. Some things that need to be done: The right rear axle seals leaks. It's not horrible but it should be attended to soon. I would have the original gauges redone and put back in service. The oil pressure is easy as it's a mechanical gauge. So is the temp gauge but the capillary tube isn't long enough to reach. Any gauge restoration shop can install a longer one. The speedometer has no needle so obviously it isn't working. The car currently has aftermarket gauges under the dash for temp and oil pressure but they look out of place. I would replace the shifter with something that looks more period correct. The door hinges should have new bushing and pins installed and require adjustment. I have a clean clear CA title for the car. The DMV lists the car as a 1934 as the previous owner made a mistake when he registered it. The car is currently registered. Also included are what appears to be the original heater for the car and a radio. However I'm not sure if the radio is original to this car but it's included anyway. All in all this car has been an absolute pleasure to own. It drives beautifully down the road all day long at speeds of 65mph+. You WILL get a ton of attention in this car. Every time we stop for dinner fuel etc. a crowd forms around the car people take pictures etc. It's really quite flattering. It's a nice balance of 80 year-old style and elegance with modern mechanicals that make it drivable in todays world. Again please keep in mind the car is 80 years old. It isn't perfect. But it is a lot of fun looks great drives great and is still able to provide enjoyment for generations to come.
