Description of 1948 Chevrolet Other Pickups |
1948 Chevy 3100: Chopped. channeled. shaved. and expertly finished. it's a show-stopper thanks to a potent 383-inch stroker motor. Obviously the big thing here is the chopped top. which gives the vintage 3100 a long. low. sleek profile without diluting its rounded contours. The work is absolutely seamless and you can't find any evidence of the chop. The A-pillars were raked back and the doors fit beautifully inside the frames. so someone took the time to measure everything carefully before they started cutting. Note how the V-butted windshield's crease continues into the roof and how the windows are shaped like the originals. only smaller. All of that takes an artist's eye as well as the craftsman's touch. Wrapping it in Hugger Orange certainly helps gather attention. and the finish quality of the entire truck is worthy of shows at the top levels. The door handles and much of the trim were shaved. the running boards were finished to match the body. and there's a custom louvered rear roll pan out back to give it a unique look. On the other hand. stock features like the shiny chrome grille. squared-off taillight housings. and the tailgate all add period-perfect touches to this truck's look. And no vintage pickup built today is complete without a beautifully finished wood bed. with this one cleverly raised to clear the lowered suspension. The interior is an equally stylish blend of traditional and modified components. all accentuating the hot-rod appeal of this truck. It's surprisingly easy to climb into the chopped pickup and it's quite spacious inside. unlike many other chopped vehicles. The bench seat was lowered and wrapped in black vinyl for an appropriate look. and the door panels look quite stock. However. black carpets on the floor and a tilt column suggest comfort was a priority as well. The original gauges are gone and new Dolphin dials are in their place. but don't worry. the original dash wasn't hacked up to make that happen. Also note that the bench was modified to clear the trick B&M shifter in the center. and with the new lower seating position and leather-wrapped wheel. the truck feels more like a performance car than a vintage pickup out on the road. And performance is a big deal here with a 383 cubic inch Chevy small block under the hood. Built with a 4-barrel carburetor and a high-rise intake. aluminum heads. and a set of long-tube headers. it's a torque monster that flings the truck up to speed with effortless ease. The show-quality engine bay shows off lots of bright Hugger Orange paint. clean wheel wells. and careful attention to detail that's easy to service and looks great. It's backed by a quick-shifting automatic transmission and a heavy-duty rear end that still hangs on leaf springs. so if you need a pickup truck in a pinch. this one can do the job. The front suspension is a familiar late-model clip with power steering and power front disc brakes. and it sits exactly right thanks to staggered 245/40/18 front and 275/30/20 performance radials on Boss alloys. A stunning show-quality truck that knocks 'em dead wherever it goes. this awesome Chevy is one heck of a machine. |
