Description of 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo |
1986 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe One of the rarest of cars to come out of 1980s was the 1986 Monte Carlo Aerocoupe. In 1986 GM built just 200 Aerocoupe Montes. This matching numbers car is #14 of 200. The car comes with extensive documentation including factory build sheet and GM Invoice. This is a restoration in progress. The plan was a complete frame off restoration. For about ten years we have been gathering the required parts to properly restore the car. The interest level to restore this car is no longer part of any plans so it is now being offered for sale at NO RESERVE!! Work completed: The car had rust in the roof over both doors. The rust was removed, ew metal welded in place, illed and primed. Once completed, new headliner was installed. The driver's door had rust at the bottom; once again, he rust was removed and a new panel welded in place. This still requires some alignment to complete. There is an area on the driver's side lower rear fender (behind wheel well) that requires similar weld repair. This does not appear to be much more than a small patch requirement. There does not appear to be any other body rust that has been found on the exterior body. The bottom of the spare tire well requires some attention. A tire well from a donor 86 Monte is part of the sale package. This will require removing the lower section of the tire well and weld in a section from the donor car. The engine has a miss when cold, ut disappears once the engine is up to operating temp. The 305 has been known to crack cylinder heads. The sale package comes with a complete running 86 Monte SS engine. The plan was to remove the matching number engine and rebuild it with the heads from the donor car if required. The transmission has been completely rebuilt and reinstalled. The car was driven from the transmission shop (my shop) to an inside storage area (10 miles) and has not been driven since (3 years). The car ran when it was parked and more than likely will run to load for transportation. There are new forged pistons .030 over with rings, ew rod and main bearings (.010 under size) as well as a complete gasket kit, ater pump, oses and more. See list attached. The rubber nose was removed as a starting point to remove the front fenders, ood, ngine and drive train. Then the body was to be removed from the frame as the restoration was to be a frame off. We got as far as the nose removal which was the extent of the tear down. There is a new GM rubber nose (still in GM box) that is part of the package. This item alone will set you back at least $700 if you can find another one. The door panels were removed to repair the door skin. The rest of the interior is still intact. The dash has a number of cracks and is in rough shape. There is a donor replacement that is almost perfect. The front seats are worn, ut there are new seat covers recently bought from Dixie Monte Carlo still in the box. Upper replacement door panels are also supplied, till in boxes. The back seat is not worn, ut needs a good cleaning. The rugs need to be replaced. The floors do not appear to be rusted. The rug has not been removed so I can't be certain the floors are 100% rust free. From the underneath of the car there are no signs of rust. The plan was to replace the ball joints, ront brakes and rear brakes. The package has new rotors, alipers, nd pads for the front as well as new drums and shoes for the rear brakes. New upper and lower ball joints are supplied in the package. Again, lease see attached list. There are four extra 86 SS Aluminum rims, n extra hood with hinges all included with this package. There will be additional parts required to complete the restoration of this car; however, ost of the higher dollar parts are in the package. As stated the car ran when parked three years ago. The rubber nose and door panels have been removed, ut the rest of the car is intact and drivable. It has been off the road long enough that it's probably not a good idea to drive the vehicle over a long distance. TERMS: Buyer to pay $500 deposit via paypal upon auction close.
