It’s widely recognized as one of, f not the most desirable year to have. The irony is that the mid-year bodied '67 was not supposed to exist! Back in '66, he Corvette buying public and press alike were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new Stingray, ue to be released as a '67. The body and interior were to be all new and closely resembling the Mako Shark II show car. The design and engineering divisions at GM were working furiously trying to get the car ready for its debut, ut it was not to be. The brass at GM decided the new Corvette wasn’t quite ready to be released. And as a result, ostponed its arrival until the ’68 model year. In the meantime, he mid-year’s design was “tweaked” ever so slightly to the point of it almost not being noticeable at first glance. But, he changes were indeed there and they were good ones! The body was updated with new rectangular “gills” on the front fenders and the back-up lights were changed to one unit located in the body between the taillights. This made for a more streamlined appearance. In the interior, he switchgear was rounded out and the seat design was changed a bit, s was the norm. But the most welcome interior change was the re-location of the emergency brake to between the seats! For the first time, orvette had a real hand brake! Back outside, wo new wheel choices were offered. The wheel covers became a thing of the past and in their place were all new "Rally Wheels" as standard equipment. They became an instant classic and are still one of the most popular wheels every designed! The optional wheel was the Bolt-on. This was very similar to the knock off wheels offered form '64-'66, ut in place of the pin drive was a safer 5 bolt lug pattern. Some of the engines were carry-overs form '66, ut there were some very significant changes to the 427 big blocks. The most noticeable was the addition of Tri-Power for two of the engines; the hydraulic lifter L68 and the mighty solid lifter L72! And of course the legendary L88 also made its debut in '67, o we're talking a major milestone year for Corvette, ight? Well, ack then the '67's for the most part languished on dealer's showroom floors because everyone was waiting for the new Shark to came out in '68!! As they say, Hindsight is always 20/20"! The beautiful example featured here has all the right stuff! Starting with a Marlboro Maroon Convertible and adding in the monster L71 435hp 427 big block w/Transistorized Ignition M-22 close ratio 4-spd, ide Exhaust, eather seats, 41 Suspension, m/fm radio, actory K-H Bolt on wheels w/Red line tires and both tops. The car has been extensively and correctly frame off restored and features the original verified engine still residing comfortably under the hood! A very rare occurrence indeed! Add to that a very nice pedigree featuring complete owner history and multiple N.C.R.S. Top Flights along the way and you end up with one very desirable package! |
