Description of 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396

1969 Chevelle SS 396

Brief History on this car: I have owned this car since 1995 (20 years). Over the 20 years I have put a lot time and money to upgrade the car. My father and I rebuilt the engine when I first bought the car since it was low on compression. Details on engine build are included below. The car was painted about ten years ago with DuPont base clear. The car is in good shape overall. It runs, rives, tops, nd idles good. You may want to change the carb out or rejet it since the car has seemed to lose some low end grunt with the new Holley 750 Street HP carb. The car is currently on the road and driven in nice weather. This is a real SS396 that was built in Canada (Oshawa plant). The picture of the VIN tag is included. What I decipher from the tag is that it is a 1969 two door sport coupe chevelle (69 13637) The car was originally lemans blue with black interior. The A51 was for the bucket seats but I don't know what the B79 is (I looked on a chevelle forum and it said exterior ornamentation rear end ??) L35 is for a 325HP 396 cubic inch big block. The M20 is for a M20 Muncie 4 speed transmission. Car has power steering and power brakes. The front brakes are disc and the rear is drum.

DRIVETRAIN:

Engine - Original motor gone, ut current big block is a L35 396 ci 325 HP block that came out of a 1966 chevelle. This is based on the numbers stamped into the block (T0615EKH180109). The motor was rebuilt about 18 years ago. Here are some of the rebuild specs:

Cylinders bored .030" over (402 C.I.D)

10.25:1 TRW forged pistons

Wolverine mild cam with hydraulic lifters

Heads redone with Stainless steel Manly valves and hardened seats

Wiend action plus aluminum intake

Holley Street HP 750 CFM vacuum secondary carb

HEI ignition

Factory exhaust manifolds, low master mufflers, nd SS Exhaust tips

New Griffin Aluminum Radiator

Transmission:

M22 Muncie 4 speed. This came out of a 1971 big block Corvette. The driveshaft was shortened ¾" and balanced in order to install the transmission. I still have the original M20 4 speed but the 3rd gear synchro is bad.

Hurst competition plus shifter

Differential:

GM 12 bolt 3.55 gears with positraction

I have always used full synthetic fluids in this car since I owned it. There is less than 2,500 miles on this car since the rebuild 18 years ago. Low mileage is due to growing up (4 years of college, tint in the US Army, etting married, uying a house, y Harley, tc.) Car has always been stored inside and prepped for winter storage.

INTERIOR:

Good overall shape. Original bucket seats and rear seat, actory dash, ll the original 396 SS badges from 69. The seats do have some small tears and discoloration. The stitching is showing at some of the seams on the front buckets.

Sun Tachometer and triple gauge pack added

Custom Auto sound stereo added with Alpine speakers in the kick panels and the rear package tray. The stereo has an aux port hookup for IPod or MP3. It sounds good

Steering wheel is cracked and missing some pieces on the outside diameter of the wheel.

EXTERIOR:

DuPont basecoat clear coat paint. Not show quality but presentable. It has a few runs in the paint and a few small dings in the body (front fender and hood)

There is some small bubbling on the bottom corner of the doors.

The rear quarters look to have been replaced at one time.

There is some surface rust in the trunk

The underside of the car has been undercoated. Surface rust on the underside see pictures included.

Glass is all there and in good condition.

Chrome on the bumpers is good.

14 X 7 Original SS wheels with BFG Radial TA tires 215/60/14 Front 235/60/14 Rear

SUSPENSION:

Pretty much all stock and original. It feels okay for as old as it is driving down the road.

I do not use this car much at all so that is why I am putting it up for sale after all these years. When it is a nice day my Harley is my first choice to go out for a ride.
